)Overview
Finds the video a page is playing and saves it as an ordinary MP4. No extra app, no account, nothing leaves your computer.
Bot Video Downloader finds the video the page in front of you is playing, and saves it as an ordinary file you can open in anything. No account. No companion app to install. No paid tier. And nothing about you or your browsing is sent anywhere — the extension has no server to send it to. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO, SAID FIRST It does not work on YouTube. That is refused in the code, deliberately, and you will get a screen explaining why rather than a mysterious failure. It does not break DRM. A film protected by Widevine or FairPlay is refused with the actual reason on screen. There is no way around that, and an extension that promises otherwise is promising you a file of noise. WHAT IT DOES - HLS (.m3u8) and MPEG-DASH (.mpd) streams, assembled into one playable file - Plain files — MP4, WEBM, MOV, and audio on its own - Live streams, recorded while they run, and stopped whenever you like - Subtitles, saved as separate .srt or .vtt files beside the video, never burned in — a subtitle you cannot turn off is not a feature - AES-128 encrypted HLS, which is not DRM: the key is a public file, and a stream carrying it is an ordinary stream EVERY QUALITY, NAMED PROPERLY A stream usually comes in several sizes, and most tools show you whichever one the player happened to pick. This one lists the whole ladder — 1080p, 720p, 540p, 360p — with the size of each, so you can decide whether the good copy is worth the wait. When a site hides the ladder by serving each quality as its own playlist under a random name, the size is read out of the video itself rather than guessed from the address. So the rungs say 1080p and 720p, not "Quality 1" and "Quality 2". IT KNOWS WHAT THE THING IS CALLED A saved file lands under the name the page gave it — the lecture's title, the post's caption, the film's name — not a string of hexadecimal from the CDN. On a page holding many videos, each row is named by its own row, and carries its own thumbnail, so you can tell them apart before you download rather than after. THINGS THAT ONLY MATTER WHEN THEY GO WRONG - A separate soundtrack is joined to the picture on save, so a video never arrives silent - A film served in several parts is one film, not eight rows - Segments, adverts and preview frames are filtered out of the list, and you can see exactly what was filtered and why - Before a large download it checks whether the disk has room, and says so first rather than failing at ninety per cent - Embedded players are handled: the download is made with the address the player itself used, which is what hotlink-protected sites insist on - 51 interface languages PRIVACY, PLAINLY The extension makes no request of its own, ever. Not analytics, not a version check, not a crash report. The only network traffic it causes is fetching the video you asked for, from the site you are already on — the same requests the player would make. Your settings and your download history stay on your computer and are deleted with the extension. There are no advertisements, no tracking, no remotely loaded code, and nothing is sold to anybody, because there is nothing to sell. If you press "Report a problem", the extension copies a diagnostic text to your clipboard and opens a form. It sends nothing itself: you read the text, edit anything you do not want to share, and submit it yourself, or not. HOW IT GOES 1. Open the page and start the video, so the page shows what it has 2. Press the extension's button — the list is what was found on that tab 3. Pick a quality, press download, and close the popup if you like; the work carries on without it MADE BY ONE PERSON This is not a company. It is one designer who wanted a downloader that did not demand an account, did not bundle an installer, and did not quietly report back. If something does not work on a site you use, say so through the report button — a real address and a description of what you expected is usually enough to get it fixed. Bot Video Downloader is a tool, not permission. Please download only what you are entitled to have: your own recordings, your own courses, material that is freely licensed, or anything a site itself offers for download. What you do with a file is between you and whoever owns it.
