**Bookmark Cleaner** is a privacy-first bookmark manager that helps you take control of your ever-growing bookmark collection. No sign-ups, no data collection, no external servers — everything runs locally on your device. ### 🔍 Find Duplicates Scan your entire bookmark tree and find every entry that shares the same URL. Groups are displayed with their full folder path so you can decide which copy to keep. Use the **Auto-Select (Keep Oldest)** button to instantly mark all but the first occurrence, then delete with a single click. URLs are intelligently normalised — UTM parameters are stripped and `www.` prefixes are ignored so tiny variations don't create false positives. ### 🔗 Detect Broken Links Identify bookmarks that are no longer useful: - Empty or malformed URLs - Local file links (`file://`) - Non-web protocols (`chrome:`, `data:`, `javascript:`) - Entries where the title matches the URL (a sign the page never loaded) Each issue is colour-coded so you can quickly assess what to keep and what to remove. ### 📁 Organise & Sort Bring order to chaos. Sort any folder — or your entire bookmark collection — by: - **A→Z / Z→A** (alphabetical by title) - **By domain** (grouped by URL hostname) - **Folders first** (directories before individual bookmarks) Preview the result before committing, and optionally apply the sort recursively to all subfolders. ### 🔎 Search & Filter Instantly search across all your bookmarks by title or URL. Results update as you type, with highlighted matches. Filter by top-level folder using chip buttons. Inline-edit bookmark titles without leaving the page, or delete with an inline confirmation prompt. ### ↩️ Undo Deletion Every deletion is backed by an **8-second undo window**. A toast bar slides up with an "Undo" button that restores the bookmark to its original parent folder and position. ### 🌙 Dark & Light Theme Choose your preferred appearance. The theme setting persists across sessions via `chrome.storage.local`. ### 🌐 Internationalisation Fully localised through Chrome's i18n system. English is included out of the box. RTL layout is automatically enabled for Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, and Urdu. --- ## Permissions Justification | Permission | Reason | |------------|--------| | `bookmarks` | Required to read the bookmark tree for scanning, searching, sorting, and displaying counts; also needed to create, move, and delete bookmarks and folders as the user explicitly directs. | | `storage` | Used only to save the user's dark/light theme preference locally.
