)Overview
Read, listen and learn from EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT and Markdown with your own OpenRouter TTS model or Chrome voices.
Book to Listen helps you read, transform books and documents into audiobooks, and learn while you reading. Import an EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT, or Markdown file, keep it in a library folder you choose, and start listening or learning where you left off. LISTEN YOUR WAY • Use voices available through Chrome without connecting an external account. • Or connect your own OpenRouter API key and choose a voice compatible model and voice you choose. • Choose one narrator, male and female voices, or a character cast. • Keep narration playing while you work in another tab. • Follow the current passage as narration plays. LEARN WHILE YOU READ Enable Learn mode, select a word, phrase, or sentence, and see its translation inside the reader without leaving your book. • Choose an OpenRouter chat model, or connect a locally running Ollama or LM Studio model. • Set the language of the book and the language you want to learn. • Configure narration and translation independently, so each task uses the provider and model you choose. • When OpenRouter translation is enabled, only the passage you select is sent directly to OpenRouter. • When Ollama or LM Studio is selected, the passage is sent only to the local server you configure. READ IN A FOCUSED BOOK VIEW • Browse a cover-based library and search by title or author. • Read in a clean book layout with light and dark themes. • Adjust the reading font and return to your saved progress. • Import EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT, and Markdown files. LOCAL-FIRST BY DESIGN Imported files are parsed locally and remain in the folder you choose. Book to Listen has no advertising, no analytics, and no Book to Listen server receiving your books, API key, or reading history. OpenRouter is optional. When you use OpenRouter narration, only the text chunks needed for speech are sent directly to OpenRouter. When you use OpenRouter translation, only the passage you select is sent directly to OpenRouter. Your OpenRouter API key is encrypted, stored locally, and sent only to OpenRouter. Provider availability and charges are governed by your OpenRouter account. HOW TO START 1. Install Book to Listen and choose a library folder. 2. Import an EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT, or Markdown file. 3. Select a Chrome voice, or connect OpenRouter and choose a compatible TTS model and voice. 4. Open your book, press Listen, or enable Learn mode and select a passage to translate. Book to Listen is built for readers, students, language learners, and anyone who wants to move between reading and listening without losing their pace.
