Overview

Select a sentence in any of 7 languages and see its backbone, clauses and modifiers explained in your native language.

Select a sentence. See its structure. SyntaxMap is a browser extension for language learners. It supports English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean, and German: whichever one is your native language, you can study any of the others. It shows up next to the sentence you’re already reading and maps the grammar you’ve learned onto the real sentence in front of you, explained in your native language. SUPPORTED LANGUAGES ● English, Chinese (simplified or traditional), Japanese, French, Spanish, Korean, and German, in any direction. ● Explanations, the panel, and the extension’s pages appear in your native language, which you choose on the SyntaxMap website under Settings → Language. ● No language to switch: SyntaxMap recognizes the language of the sentence you select and breaks it down by that language’s own rules, from particles and noun-modifying clauses in Japanese and Korean, to the verb-final clauses of German, the object pronouns and dropped subjects of French and Spanish, and the modifiers joined with 的 in Chinese. HOW IT WORKS 1. Select a sentence on any web page. A “Break it down” button appears next to it. 2. Click it. The AI finds the main clause first, then unpacks the clauses and modifiers. It usually takes less than a minute. 3. Compare in the side panel: color-coded parts, the main clause, clause-by-clause notes, grammar points, and reasoning steps. Press Esc to close. WHAT YOU GET ● Color-coded parts: subject, verb, object, complement, and modifiers. Click any part to see the role it plays at that level of the sentence, and why. ● Main clause first: optional modifiers are set aside, with a note on what was dropped and what was kept. ● Clause by clause: each clause’s type, which level it belongs to, what it modifies, and its own subject, verb, and object. Nested clauses unfold one level at a time. ● Grammar points that quote the original sentence and explain why, how to spot it, and common mistakes. ● Reasoning steps you can reuse on the next long sentence. HONEST BY DESIGN ● Labels must match the original word for word. If they don’t line up, the result isn’t shown. ● Ambiguity gets flagged: when a sentence lacks context or can be read more than one way, the panel says where it’s unsure. ● The AI can make mistakes. Treat the analysis as a study aid. PRIVACY ● Only the sentence you select is sent, and only when you click “Break it down”. The page address, the rest of the page, and your browsing history are never sent. ● SyntaxMap’s service passes the sentence to an AI model to generate the analysis. The AI provider never receives your email or account details. ● Privacy Policy: https://syntaxmap.ai/global/privacy ACCOUNT AND LIMITS ● Try the built-in examples without signing in: click the toolbar icon → “Try examples”. ● Breaking down any sentence requires a SyntaxMap account: click “Connect account”, sign in on the website with an email code or Google, and the extension connects automatically. There’s nothing to copy. ● Free accounts can break down 5 sentences a day. A sentence that has already been broken down comes back right away and doesn’t count. Plans with higher limits are available on the website. WHERE IT WORKS ● Regular web pages in desktop Chrome and Edge. ● Not yet supported: browser-internal pages, the built-in PDF viewer, cross-origin iframes, and text in input boxes and editors. ● One sentence at a time, up to 1,600 characters.
