Overview

Blurs names, messages, photos and unread counts in your WhatsApp Web chat list. Hover a row to reveal it.

Anyone walking past your desk can read your entire WhatsApp chat list — who messages you, what they said, and how often. Screen sharing on a call exposes the same thing to everyone watching. Blur for WhatsApp Web blurs the chat list so that doesn't happen. Move your mouse over a row and it becomes readable again, instantly. CHOOSE WHAT TO HIDE • Last message — including read receipts, attachment icons and emoji • Contact and group names • Profile photos, group icons and initial avatars • Unread message badges • Timestamps Each one is a separate switch, so you can blur only what matters to you. Blur strength is adjustable from 1 to 8 pixels. HOVER TO REVEAL Nothing is hidden from you — only from people looking over your shoulder. Hover any row and it clears immediately, then blurs again when you move away. PRIVACY BY DESIGN • No data collection of any kind • No network requests — the extension has no server • No analytics, no telemetry, no ads, no tracking • Cannot read your messages: it only adds a stylesheet • Runs on web.whatsapp.com and nowhere else • Open source and auditable The extension works by injecting a single CSS stylesheet. It does not read page content, does not modify the page structure, and has no background process. Your settings are the only thing stored, and they stay in your own browser. HOW IT WORKS Rather than blurring individual pieces of text, each rule blurs the container that wraps the information. This covers the whole subtree at once, so nothing slips through — reaction text, attachment labels and emoji are all covered — and it keeps working when WhatsApp changes the markup inside. --- Independent open-source project.
