BlockSite: Site Blocker & Block Websites - WebSilence
Overview
Site blocker for Chrome: block a site in one click, block websites on a schedule and set up parental controls.
Kids find the corners of the internet you hoped they wouldn't. WebSilence is a site blocker and parental control for Chrome that keeps those doors shut, and it's just as handy when the distraction is your own. SET IT UP FOR YOUR KIDS IN ABOUT A MINUTE 1. Install WebSilence and choose "My child" in the setup guide. 2. Create an account and set a parental PIN your kids don't know. 3. Pick an age level: Young Child (Ages 3-7), Pre-Teen (Ages 8-12) or Teenager (Ages 13-17). Every level blocks adult content, gambling, dating sites, video chat with strangers, gore and the proxies kids use to get around blocks. Pre-Teen also blocks social media, chat apps and AI companions; Young Child adds video and games. Rather choose for yourself? Turn on categories one at a time: Social media, Video and streaming, Games, AI chatbots, Shopping and more. If a level blocks a site your family needs, you can allow it. SMART ENOUGH TO LEAVE HOMEWORK ALONE Adult pages are recognized by their address, title and wording, so news, Wikipedia and homework help stay open. Adult site names in the built-in lists show up partly hidden (p•••b.com), so the settings page never reads like a list of them. HARD TO SWITCH OFF • The PIN locks the settings and can lock Chrome's extensions page too. • Forgot the PIN? Sign in with the account that set it and the PIN is reset. • On Windows, an optional setup uses Chrome's own policy so WebSilence can't be removed, and can turn off Incognito windows, guest mode and new profiles. Give your child a standard (non-admin) Windows account. BLOCK A SITE FOR YOURSELF • One click on the toolbar button blocks the site you're on. • Block a whole website (youtube.com) or one section of it (youtube.com/@channel, reddit.com/r/popular). • Block keywords found in a page's address or text, and add sites straight from your history. • Schedules: block sites Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or allow social media only from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Tabs that are already open get blocked when the schedule kicks in. SYNC AND SIGN-IN Sign in and your blocked sites, schedules, age level and categories sync between computers and come back after a reinstall. You can use WebSilence for three days without an account; after that, the popup and settings ask you to sign in with an email address and a password. Nothing to buy, and blocking keeps working the whole time. PRIVACY WebSilence doesn't record the pages you or your kids visit and doesn't send them anywhere. All blocking happens on your computer. Available in 51 languages.
