Block Sites Until I Complete ANKI
Overview
Keeps your distracting sites blocked until you have really studied today's goal in Anki. Window, camera and card anti-cheat.
Stop procrastinating. Study first. Block Sites Until I Complete ANKI locks the websites you choose (YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram — you name it) and only unlocks them after you have actually studied your daily Anki goal. No shortcuts, no cheating. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔒 HOW IT WORKS 1. Add the sites that distract you, or switch to allow-list mode and block everything except what you need. 2. Set today's goal — the minutes you want to spend reviewing Anki cards, plus any of the optional extra goals below. 3. Open your Anki desktop app and study. A live timer counts only the seconds you are really reviewing. 4. Hit your goal and your sites unlock automatically, until the next daily reset. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🛡️ ANTI-CHEAT — IT ONLY COUNTS WHEN IT REALLY COUNTS ▸ Window check Chrome cannot see your desktop, so Anki reports for itself. The small AnkiGate Bridge add-on that ships inside this extension tells it whether Anki is genuinely the window in front of you and filling the screen. Alt-tab to a video and the clock stops that instant. ▸ Card check Through AnkiConnect, the extension knows how many cards you have answered and when. Leaving Anki open and doing nothing will not fool it — there is an idle timeout, a cap on how long any single card can be worth, and an option to ignore answers that arrive faster than a real answer takes. ▸ Camera check (optional, off by default) Switch it on and the timer only runs while your face is visible. You can add eyes open and on the screen, regular blinking, and a movement check that catches a photograph propped in front of the lens. Everything is analysed on your own machine. Your video is never recorded, never uploaded, and never written to disk. ▸ Deck and video checks Limit which decks count, so an hour of Anki cannot all be the easy deck. And if a card carries a video, the clock can be set to run only while that video is actually playing — it even pauses the video for you when the clock stops, and picks it back up where you left off. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎯 MORE THAN A TIMER — FIVE KINDS OF GOAL Mix and match. Every one of these is optional except the time itself, and your sites stay locked until all of them are satisfied. • Time — minutes of real reviewing. • Cards — a number of cards, optionally counting each card only once, so one card answered Again forty times counts as one. • Clear today's due — measured from Anki's own deck list, so your daily limits are respected. Point it at one specific deck if you like. • Get this much right — a minimum share of today's review answers correct. • Per-deck time — an hour of Anki, but at least twenty minutes in Biology. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🪟 THE FLOATING WINDOW A small always-on-top window sits over Anki showing your clock, and your face if you have the camera on. It opens by itself the moment Anki comes to the front, and you can drag it anywhere, resize it, and add more time to today's goal from it. Chrome throttles background tabs; this window keeps everything running at full speed. Anki's own window can also glow at the edge — green while your time is counting, red while something has stopped it — so you never have to leave Anki to check. Note: holding the window above other applications is Windows only. On macOS and Linux it still works as an ordinary small window, so keep Anki un-maximised beside it. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⚙️ FEATURES • Blacklist mode — block specific sites. Whitelist mode — block everything except what you allow. Both understand paths and subdomains. • Daily reset at a time you choose. • Password protection — lock your settings so you cannot change them in a moment of weakness. Auto-lock re-locks them after you close the page. • Strict mode — freeze your settings on a daily schedule, or commit to a deadline weeks away that nothing can loosen until it expires. • Backup and restore your settings to a file. • Points, levels and a daily streak. • Dark mode and light mode. • A progress bar that shifts from red to green as you close in on your goal, and a motivational quote on the blocked page. • Works entirely offline — no accounts, no servers, no sign-ups. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📋 SETUP — THREE STEPS 1. Anki desktop app: https://apps.ankiweb.net 2. AnkiConnect, inside Anki. Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons, paste code 2055492159, restart Anki. Then open Tools → Add-ons → AnkiConnect → Config and make sure webCorsOriginList contains "*", and restart Anki again. Without that step AnkiConnect refuses this extension and you will see "cannot reach Anki". 3. AnkiGate Bridge, which ships inside this extension. Open Settings → Study & Unlock → 🖥️ Anki window and press ⬇ Add-on, then install the saved file in Anki with Tools → Add-ons → Install Add-on from File, and restart Anki. This is the one that lets the extension see whether Anki is really in front of you, draws the glow on Anki's window, powers the due, retention and count-each-card-once goals and the video check, and holds the floating window on top. The time goal works without it; everything above needs it. Everything runs on your own machine at 127.0.0.1. Nothing is fetched from a server. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔐 PRIVACY • No data leaves your computer. Ever. • No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no telemetry, no ads. • The camera is off until you turn it on, and frames are checked for a face and discarded immediately. Nothing is recorded or saved. • The only network connections are to 127.0.0.1 — your own Anki app, on your own machine. • The blocked page shows the blocked site's icon from your browser's own cache. It does not contact that site, and it does not contact any icon service.
