Blindfold Chess lets you play and train on lichess.org entirely by ear. Every opponent move is announced aloud via text-to-speech, and your moves are entered with a simple 3-key chord on the home row — no mouse, no board glance required. Designed for players who want to sharpen their visualization, and accessible to users who rely on audio feedback rather than visual board state. How moves work Each move is three keystrokes: piece, then file, then rank — all on the home row. Pieces: S = king, D = rook, F = pawn, J = knight, K = bishop, L = queen Files: A = a, S = b, D = c, F = d, J = e, K = f, L = g, ; = h Ranks: A = 1, S = 2, D = 3, F = 4, J = 5, K = 6, L = 7, ; = 8 Examples: — Knight to e5: J J J — Pawn to d4: F F F — Queen to g7: L L L — Rook to h1: D ; A If two pieces of the same type can both reach the target square, the extension says "ambiguous" and asks for one more key — the file or rank the piece is moving from — to tell them apart. Puzzle training On lichess puzzle pages the extension announces the opponent's opening move, navigates the board back to the start automatically, and plays a success or failure tone after each of your responses. Press Enter to advance to the next puzzle after solving. Drawing arrows and highlights Press M to switch between move mode and draw mode. In draw mode: — Two keys (file + rank) highlights a square. For example, J J highlights e5. — Four keys (file + rank + file + rank) draws an arrow between two squares. For example, J J L L draws an arrow from e5 to g7. Press C at any time to clear all drawings. Navigate move history G = go back one move · H = go forward one move Permissions The extension uses the Chrome Debugger API solely to simulate the two mouse clicks needed to execute a move (source square → destination square). No data is collected or transmitted.
