Blanx: Highlight to blank
Overview
Turn web pages or PDFs into fill-in-the-blank quizzes. Highlight words to hide, type them back to test your recall.
Blanx lets you turn web pages or PDF files into fill-in-the-blank quizzes so you can study by active recall instead of passively re-reading. Passively re-reading notes and highlights feels productive, but it's one of the weakest ways to remember anything. Forcing yourself to retrieve the answer (active recall) works far better. Blanx makes it effortless: hide the words you need to know, then quiz yourself on the spot. HOW IT WORKS — ON ANY WEB PAGE 1. Click the Blanx toolbar icon and turn Blanx on. It stays on across the pages you browse until you turn it off. 2. Highlight any word or phrase you want to memorize — it's instantly hidden behind a blank input field, right where it sits on the page. 3. Type your answers, then click "Check answers" to see which ones you got right. 4. Turn Blanx off anytime from the toolbar popup. HOW IT WORKS — ON PDFs 1. Open a PDF. Online PDFs open in Blanx automatically. For PDFs on your computer, click the Blanx toolbar icon and choose "Open PDF". 2. Highlight any word or phrase — it's instantly hidden behind a blank input field. 3. Type your answers, then click "Check answers". Click the × on any blank to bring the word back. EXAMPLES FOR WHAT YOU CAN USE THIS FOR - Vocabulary, definitions, and key terms - Dates, names, and facts - Formulas and equations - Anything you'd otherwise re-read passively WHO IT'S FOR - Students revising lecture slides, textbook chapters, study guides, and online articles - Language learners drilling vocabulary - Anyone studying for exams or certifications - People who learn better by testing themselves than by re-reading PRIVACY No ads, no trackers, and we don't sell your data. Blanx is off by default and runs nothing until you turn it on from the popup. - storage: saves your on/off choice on your device so Blanx remembers it. Never transmitted. - Host access (<all_urls>): required so the online-PDF redirect works on any host, and so Blanx can add its blanking tools to the pages you visit while it's turned on. Blanx reads page text only while turned on, only in your browser — nothing is transmitted.
