Hitome: Furigana Reader

Furigana for Japanese video subtitles and web pages. Save words with the line you heard and review them on your phone.

Read Japanese without stopping at every kanji — and keep what you learn. ■ Furigana on video subtitles Japanese subtitles on Netflix get furigana, right where the original subtitles sit. Nothing is covered and the video isn't shrunk. If a title has Japanese subtitles, they're turned on for you. Turn on a second subtitle line in your own language to glance at when you get stuck. ■ Tap a word, keep the scene Tap any word to see its dictionary form, meaning and examples. Conjugated forms (食べた) are underlined and looked up as their base form (食べる). Save it and the line you heard is stored with it (plus its translation, if you turned on the second subtitle line). From your deck, tap "Watch the scene" to jump back to that moment. ■ Review on your phone Everything you save goes to your Hitome deck. Review it with spaced-repetition flashcards in the Hitome app, or from your home-screen and lock-screen widgets. No Anki setup needed. ■ Web pages too Select Japanese text, right-click → "Add furigana". A side panel shows the text with furigana; tap words to look them up. On link-heavy sites, use "Pick a paragraph" instead of dragging. ■ Getting started You need a free Hitome account. Click the extension icon → [Connect account].
