Product Scanner — is it worth it?
Overview
Checks the evidence behind a product while you're on the brand's own page.
Is it worth it, and is there a better buy? Find out before you pay. You're on a product page. The brand says it's clinically proven, dermatologist recommended, the best of its kind. Product Scanner does two things: 1. It checks the claims. It researches the product and tells you which claims hold up, with the sources, so you can check them yourself. 2. It finds you a better buy. It shows options that do the same job for less, or do it better for the same price, so you can save money or get more for it. HOW IT WORKS A small "Check this product" badge appears in the corner of any product page. Tap it and the side panel opens with a verdict: • Worth it: at least one of the product's claims is backed by an independent source, and nothing is documented against it. • Skip it: we found a recall or safety action, a claim the evidence contradicts, or a clearly better value. • Depends: the evidence is thin or mixed, so the answer rests on what you need. We say so rather than guess. WHAT YOU GET • Each claim marked supported, mixed or not supported, with the source linked. • Sources that count: medical studies (PubMed), U.S. recall records (CPSC and FDA), and the product's own label. A brand's own website never counts as evidence. Every cited page is fetched and checked before it's shown. • Better options for each product, saying what differs: same quality for a lower price, better quality for the same price, and so on, with Amazon and Google links. • What people say online, kept separate and labelled unverified, because opinion is not evidence. • Your history of checked products, if you create an account. FREE TO START Your first 5 checks need no account. Create a free account for 5 more. A product anyone has already checked opens instantly and never counts toward your checks. WHAT WE READ, AND WHAT WE DON'T We read the product: its brand, name, price and ingredient or spec list, and the site's domain, such as www.example.com. Never the rest of the page address, never your browsing history, never another site's cookies. On a page that isn't selling something, nothing is sent at all. No setup. The badge appears by itself on product pages. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commission never changes what we recommend or the order it appears in.
