Overview

Generate strong, random passwords with your browser's secure random number generator. Everything stays on your device.

Padlock creates strong, random passwords on your device. Copy the result with a click, or insert it straight into a text field. How it works - Every character is drawn with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, and the strength meter shows the exact entropy in bits. - Choose the length (4 to 128 characters) and the character types: lowercase, uppercase, digits and symbols. You can avoid look-alike characters such as 0, O, 1, l and I, and exclude any characters you do not want. - Copy the result, or right-click a text field and choose “Insert secure password”. - Optional: clear the clipboard automatically 30 seconds to 2 minutes after copying. - Optional: keep a list of the last 50 generated passwords. It is off by default, held unencrypted in browser memory only, and erased when Chrome closes. - Light and dark themes, and 30 interface languages. Privacy Padlock runs entirely on your device. It collects no data, makes no network requests and contains no ads or analytics. It is not a password manager: it does not save or sync anything. Permissions Padlock accesses a page only when you use its right-click menu entry, and only the tab and field you used. The clipboard permissions are optional and requested only if you turn on automatic clipboard clearing. Open source (Apache License 2.0): github.com/mgnischor/chrome-padlock
