Open any article in the language you're learning and this extension tells you one thing: what share of it you already know. Reading works when you understand almost everything — around 98% of the words — because that's when you can infer a new word from context instead of stopping to look it up. Below about 95% you're decoding, not reading, and that's the difference between a book you finish and one you abandon on page four. The problem is you can't tell which side of that line a page falls on by looking at it. So count it. HOW IT WORKS Click the icon on any page. The extension reads the article text, measures it against the vocabulary band you've set, and shows you: • The percentage of the page you already know • Whether it's comfortable, a stretch, or too hard as it is • The words that are new to you • Which frequency band the page is actually written for, so you can see how far off it is If it's too hard, "Read it at my level" opens Beeblio, which fetches the same article and can rewrite it at your level while keeping the meaning. WHY FREQUENCY BANDS Words follow a steep curve: a small set does most of the work. The 1,500 most common Spanish words cover roughly 80% of ordinary text; the next ten thousand buy you far less. Learning them in frequency order means the next word you learn is the most useful one left. The bands here — 300, 800, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 8,000, 12,000 — are that curve, and they're what the measurement is against.
