Overview

Monitor and track cookies from specific domains with real-time updates and export capabilities

Monitor and track cookies from specific domains, keep a full session history including removed cookies, and export it as JSON. Cookie Collector Extension - User Guide What is Cookie Collector? Cookie Collector is a focused browser extension that records every cookie set on the domains you choose during a browsing session, including cookies that are later updated or removed, and shows which request or script set each one. Unlike generic cookie viewers that only show what exists right now, it keeps a history of the session so nothing is missed. What's New in 2.0 • Compact, data-first table that replaces the old step-by-step layout • See what set each cookie: the request (Set-Cookie header) or the script file • The table updates live, highlights changes, and keeps your place • Optional cookie values, off by default • Site access is requested per domain instead of for all websites • Switch between all your monitored domains Key Features 🎯 Targeted Domain Monitoring • Monitor cookies from specific domains you configure (subdomains included) • Add multiple root domains to your watchlist • Site access is requested only for the domains you add, never for all websites 📊 Complete Session History • Every cookie change is recorded while the side panel is open: created, updated and removed • Removed cookies stay in the log with a "Removed" status instead of disappearing • The table updates live as cookies change, with no need to press Refresh •New and changed rows are highlighted for a few seconds, and your scroll position, filter and sort are kept 🔍 Compact Cookie Table • A dense, one-row-per-cookie table built for scanning, not decoration • Sortable columns (Status, Name, Path, Time, plus Value when values are shown) • Resize columns by dragging the borders between column headers, like DevTools; double-click a border to reset (new in 2.0.1) • Click any row to see full details: domain, path, expiry, modified time, status and document origin • Filter by name or domain, and by status with one-click chips that show live counts • Switch between monitored domains from the toolbar 🔎 What Set This Cookie? • "Document origin" (documentOrigin in exports) shows what first set each cookie: ○ the request whose Set-Cookie header created it, with the request type (page, script, XHR/fetch, image…) and the page it was loaded on, or ○ the script file that wrote it with document.cookie or the Cookie Store API, and the page it ran on • If the exact source wasn't seen (for example, the cookie already existed before you started monitoring), it falls back to the page that was loading or open at the time, and labels it as a best guess • The first known source is kept even when the cookie is later updated or removed 🔑 Optional Cookie Values • Cookie values are hidden by default • Turn on "Show cookie values" in settings to add a Value column, search by value, and copy values from the row details • Exports include values only when this option is on 🛠️ Export & Data Management • Export cookies to JSON format with timestamps, status and document origin details • Automatic filename generation (cookies_domain_date.json) • Clear cookie logs to start fresh monitoring • Refresh cookies manually when needed 🔒 Privacy • All data stays in your browser; nothing is sent to any server • The cookie log is kept in session storage and is cleared when the browser closes • Only the domains you choose are monitored; requests and scripts on other sites are never looked at • Requests are only observed, never blocked or changed, and pages keep working exactly as before Why Install Cookie Collector? For Developers • Debugging: Inspect cookies during development and testing, including ones that are set and removed quickly • Testing: Verify cookie behaviour across login, logout and other flows • Documentation: Export a cookie inventory for your applications • Compliance: Check which cookies your site actually sets For Privacy & Security Review • Audit: See every cookie a site sets during a session, and which request or script set it • Monitoring: Track when and how cookies are modified or removed • Third parties: Find out which embedded scripts or services drop cookies on your site • Compliance: Support GDPR and cookie-policy reviews with an exported cookie list How to Use Cookie Collector Installation • Click "Add to Chrome" on this page • Click "Add extension" in the confirmation dialog • Pin the extension and click its icon to open the side panel Basic Usage 1. Add a Domain • Click the extension icon to open the side panel; settings open automatically the first time • Enter the root domain you want to monitor (e.g., "example.com") and click "Add domain" • Allow access to that site when Chrome asks • Add more domains from settings (⚙) at any time • Optionally tick "Show cookie values" 2. Monitor Cookies • Keep the side panel open while you browse; cookie changes appear in the table as they happen • Use Refresh (⟳) to add cookies that were already set before you opened the panel; it never resets the history already recorded • Pick the domain to view from the toolbar drop-down 3. View and Analyze Cookies • Click column headers to sort; click Time to see the most recent changes first • Click a row to expand its details, including its document origin • Type in Filter to find specific cookies (also searches values when they're shown) • Use the status chips (All, Active, Updated, Removed) to narrow the list 4. Export and Manage Data • Click Export (⤓) to download cookies as a JSON file • Files are automatically named with domain and date (e.g., "cookies_example.com_2024-01-15.json") • Click Clear (✕) to reset the log for the selected domain Cookie Status • Active: Cookie is present • Updated: Cookie was overwritten with a new value or attributes • Removed: Cookie was deleted or expired Good to Know • Cookies are recorded only while the side panel is open. • The log is per browser session and is cleared when Chrome closes. Export it if you need to keep it. • If you remove a domain from the list, Chrome's site access for that domain is removed as well. • Upgrading from 1.x: your domains are kept, but Chrome needs you to grant site access again. The panel shows a "Grant access" button for any domain that needs it. • A few sources can't be traced exactly, such as cookies set inside a site's service worker or from the developer console. These show the page instead. System Requirements • Browser: Chrome 114 or later (requires the Side Panel API); other Chromium-based browsers with Side Panel support • Permissions: ○ cookies - To read and monitor cookie data ○ storage - To save your domain list, settings and the session cookie log ○ tabs - To read open tabs' addresses when an exact cookie source isn't available ○ webRequest - To see which response's Set-Cookie header created a cookie (only on the domains you add; requests are observed, never blocked or changed) ○ scripting - To detect which script on a monitored site writes a cookie with JavaScript (only on the domains you add; the page's cookies and behaviour are not changed) ○ sidePanel - To display the extension interface ○ Optional site access - Requested only for the domains you add to the monitoring list; nothing is accessed on any other site Support Questions or problems?
