Bates Stamp adds Bates numbers to every page of every PDF in a batch, directly in Chrome. Drop in your documents, pick a saved preset or set the prefix, start number and padding, and export one merged PDF or a ZIP of stamped files together with a Bates index. All processing happens inside your browser, so confidential documents are never uploaded to a server. Built for paralegals, litigation support teams, law firms, records departments and anyone producing documents for discovery, court filings, audits or FOIA requests. HOW IT WORKS 1. Click the toolbar icon to open Bates Stamp in a tab. 2. Drag and drop your PDFs. Reorder them by dragging or sort A to Z. 3. Choose a preset or set your numbering, position and font. 4. Check the live preview, then click Apply & Export. Your stamped PDF downloads immediately, along with a CSV index you can attach to your production log. NUMBERING THAT MATCHES YOUR PRODUCTION - Prefix, zero-padded number and suffix, for example SMITH000001 or ABC-00042-CONF - Continuous numbering across the whole batch, or restart for each document - The start number advances automatically after each export so the next batch continues where you left off - Stamp every page, skip the first page of each document, or odd and even pages only - Multi-line stamp text with codes for page number, page count, document number, file name, first and last number in the document, and today's date - Optional confidentiality line (CONFIDENTIAL, ATTORNEYS' EYES ONLY, DRAFT) above the number, below it, or in the opposite corner PLACE IT WHERE THE COURT EXPECTS IT - Six positions: top or bottom, left, centre or right - Distance from the page edge in inches, so nothing is lost when printing - Alternate left and right for duplex printing - Avoid overlapping page contents: shrinks and shifts the page slightly so the stamp never covers existing text - Rotated pages and cropped pages are handled correctly LOOKS RIGHT, EVERY TIME - Helvetica, Times and Courier in regular, bold and italic - Font size, colour, opacity, alignment and line spacing - Optional white box with outline so the stamp stays legible over images and dark scans - Live preview on your actual pages, with page by page navigation SAVE A PRESET FOR EVERY MATTER - Save as many presets as you need and switch between them from the toolbar - Set a default, rename, duplicate or delete presets - Export presets as JSON and import them on another machine so your whole team stamps the same way - Presets are stored locally in Chrome's extension storage. EXPORT THE WAY YOU FILE - One merged PDF in list order, or a ZIP with each document stamped and renamed - File name patterns using the prefix, first and last number, original file name and date - Bates index CSV listing each file, page count, and first and last number - Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+Enter to export, Ctrl+S to save the preset PRIVATE BY DESIGN Bates Stamp asks for one permission, storage, which is only used to save your presets. It makes no network requests, therefore all data remains on your computer and is never sent to the cloud. Documents are processed in memory in the extension page and are discarded when you close the tab. That makes it suitable for privileged, sealed and client-confidential material.
