Overview

Decode Base64 to text or files, encode UTF-8 and binary data, and use URL-safe output. Results update as you type.

Base64 Decode & Encode turns encoded strings into readable text or downloadable files, and converts text or local files back to Base64. Paste a string into Decode, or switch to Encode and start typing. The result updates automatically, with no separate conversion step. 🔎 Base64 decoder for text and binary data A Base64 decoder is useful when a response, message or configuration contains encoded content. Printable UTF-8 appears in the result panel. When the decoded bytes are binary, the extension prepares a file for download instead of trying to display them as broken characters. Common file signatures help suggest a filename. Use it to decode Base64 strings, recover the bytes of an encoded PDF, or save an image that was stored as Base64. This restores the encoded data; it does not change a PDF into another document format or analyze the contents of an image. 📦 Base64 encoder for text and files • For text to Base64, enter or paste UTF-8 text. • For file to Base64, use Import file or drop a local file into the input area. Images, PDFs and other binary files are encoded from their bytes, so the extension does not resize, recompress or reformat them. The source and result stay in separate panels. Copy the Base64 string for a request body, test fixture or application field, or download the full encoded result. Imported binary files do not need to be opened as text first. ⚙️ Choose the alphabet and padding • The URL-safe option uses the Base64url alphabet with - and _ in place of + and /. Choose the mode expected by the application receiving your data. • Omit padding is available when encoding if the destination expects a string without trailing = characters. Decoding validates the alphabet, padding and unused bits rather than silently accepting a malformed string. Paste the Base64 payload itself: remove a data: URL prefix before decoding. Base64 is an encoding, so converting it back to bytes does not decrypt a password or unlock an encrypted file. 👀 Read the preview, keep the complete result Large text results may use a shortened preview. Copy and Download still use the complete successful result, not just the visible excerpt. Bigger decoded text and binary output can be downloaded even when they are not shown in the text panel. The tool accepts up to 4 MiB of UTF-8 text for encoding and up to 8 MiB for imported files and decoded data. The Base64 input allowance accounts for the larger encoded form and a small amount of whitespace. Invalid data produces an error instead of a partially decoded download. 💻 A local conversion workspace Open the extension in its own Chrome tab and work with the two panels. Decode is selected initially. Clear the input to begin again, or change direction and options for the next conversion. Editing the source invalidates the old result, so a previous successful conversion cannot be mistaken for the current text. Text and files are processed locally with a bundled conversion worker. They are not uploaded to a conversion service. Use this Base64 converter to inspect b64 strings or prepare test data while keeping the source on your device.
