Barrier Bureau – EAA Accessibility Check for Online Shops

Checks any page against WCAG 2.1 AA (EN 301 549) for the European Accessibility Act and explains every problem in plain language.

Since 28 June 2025, online shops that sell to consumers in the EU have to meet the accessibility requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Micro-enterprises are exempt. Barrier Bureau shows you, page by page, where your shop falls short and how to fix it. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open any page of your shop: home page, product page, cart. 2. Click the Barrier Bureau icon and "Scan this page". 3. Read the report: what is wrong, what it means for your customers and how to fix it. Save it as a PDF for your agency or developer. WHAT IT CHECKS • More than 60 automated rules from WCAG 2.1 A and AA, the level of the European standard EN 301 549 • Text contrast, with the colour values and the measured ratio • Images without alternative text • Buttons and links with no name a screen reader can announce (cart, search, menu icons) • Form fields without labels and wrong autofill values in checkout • Language, page title, headings and page structure • Whether the page links to an accessibility statement, which the EAA requires and the usual scanners do not check • Best practices and the new WCAG 2.2 rule on target size are shown separately as recommendations It works with any e-commerce platform. PRIVATE BY DESIGN The check runs entirely in your browser. No page content is sent to us or anyone else. No account, no tracking. At the end of a report you can optionally vote on which feature we should build next. Only your choice and the report language are sent, anonymously: no email, no website address, nothing that identifies you. HONEST LIMITS Automated tools find roughly a third to a half of all accessibility problems. Barrier Bureau is a starting point, not legal advice and not proof of conformance.
