Cycle back and forward through your last 10 active tabs.

BackTab brings Back and Forward navigation to your tabs. Return to the tab you were just using, then move forward again—all from your keyboard. It follows the order you use your tabs, rather than their position in the tab bar. Each Chrome window keeps its own history of up to 10 recent tabs, so you can move between documentation, projects, research, and reading without hunting through a crowded tab bar. SEE WHERE YOU’RE GOING Hold Alt (Option on Mac) to see your recent tabs in a clear, floating preview. The current tab is highlighted, with previous and next tabs alongside it. Keep the key held as you navigate, then release it to dismiss the preview. The overlay adapts to light and dark mode, with optional background dimming to soften the change between pages. MAKE IT YOURS Open BackTab from the extension icon to turn the preview on or off, choose when it appears—from instantly to two seconds—or toggle background dimming. Keyboard navigation works with the preview turned off, too. LOCAL AND PRIVATE BackTab works without an account, ads, analytics, or a remote server. Your navigation history stays in this browser session. Tab titles, addresses, and Chrome-cached icons are used temporarily to display the preview; they are not saved or sent anywhere by BackTab. Your preview preferences are saved locally. The preview needs site access to appear on web pages. Chrome restricts overlays on internal pages and the Chrome Web Store; keyboard tab navigation still works there. Free to use.
