Save bandwidth while YouTube audio keeps playing. Background Quality Saver for YouTube™ automatically reduces video quality when a YouTube watch tab becomes inactive. This helps prevent background videos from using unnecessary data while you listen to music, podcasts, interviews, playlists, or other content. When you return to the tab, the extension restores the video quality that was selected before the tab became inactive. Quick tab changes are ignored if you return before the delay ends. Best for playback continuity. Smooth mode may use slightly more bandwidth than the other modes. Balanced Waits 1.5 seconds before lowering quality and uses a gradual transition. Best for balancing playback continuity with data savings. Bandwidth Saver Lowers quality immediately using a more aggressive transition. Best for minimizing bandwidth usage. YouTube may briefly interrupt playback or audio while changing video streams. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install and enable the extension. 2. Select the preferred background video quality. 3. Choose Smooth, Balanced, or Bandwidth Saver mode. 4. Use YouTube normally. When a playing YouTube watch tab becomes inactive, the extension waits for the delay selected by your switching mode and then lowers its video quality. If you return before the Smooth or Balanced delay finishes, the pending quality change is cancelled. When you return after quality has been lowered, the extension restores the previously selected quality.
