Back to work
Overview
Block websites that distract you for a set amount of time each day, or in specific time slots.
Do you find yourself opening YouTube, social media, news sites or other distracting websites when you should be working? Back to work is a simple, free Chrome extension that helps you stay focused by blocking the websites that distract you. There are no accounts, no advertisements, no subscriptions and no complicated productivity features. Just choose which websites you want to block, decide when they should be blocked, and get back to work. 🔒 BLOCK DISTRACTING WEBSITES Add any website you want to block. You can specify: • An entire domain, such as youtube.com • A specific path, such as youtube.com/shorts • Wildcards (*) for flexible matching When you visit a blocked website, it is replaced with a simple "Back to work :-)" page. There is no "allow for 5 minutes" button or temporary override. If you have decided that a website should be blocked, Back to work simply blocks it. ⏰ BLOCK WEBSITES AT SPECIFIC TIMES You don't always need to block a website all day. Sometimes you just want to keep it out of reach while you're working. You can define one or more time intervals for each website. The intervals apply on weekdays. For example: YouTube 08:30–12:00 13:00–16:00 You can create multiple intervals for the same website, giving you control over exactly when it should be available. ⏱️ SET A DAILY TIME LIMIT Not every website needs to be completely blocked. For websites you want to use in moderation, you can set a daily time limit — for example, 10 minutes per day. Back to work keeps track of how long you actually spend on the website in Chrome. Time is counted only while the website's tab is visible. Once your daily allowance has been used, the website is blocked for the rest of the day. This allows you to distinguish between websites you want to avoid completely and websites you simply want to use less. 🔐 YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE Privacy is a core principle of Back to work. The extension needs permission to see which websites you visit. This is necessary to determine whether a website should be blocked and to keep track of your time limits. However: • Your data is stored locally in your browser • Your browsing data is never sent to external servers • Your browsing data is not shared with anyone • There is no user account • There is no tracking • There are no advertisements Back to work does not need to know who you are or what you do online. The extension works locally in your browser. ✨ SIMPLE BY DESIGN Back to work deliberately does one thing: it helps you stay away from distracting websites. There are no productivity scores, social features, analytics dashboards, motivational notifications or complicated workflows. Just: Choose a website → choose when or how long you can access it → get back to work. Back to work is completely free and contains no advertisements. 📱 NO CLOUD SYNC Your settings and usage data are stored locally on your device. They are not synchronized between different computers or Chrome installations. If you use Chrome on multiple devices, each installation of Back to work has its own settings. 🔑 WHY DOES BACK TO WORK NEED WEBSITE ACCESS? To block websites and enforce your time limits, Back to work needs to know which website you are currently visiting. This permission is necessary for the extension to do its job. The information is processed locally in your browser and is never sent to or shared with external servers.
