Overview

Block autoplay videos and audio on any site. Media plays only when you click play. Per-site rules, no data collection.

Tired of videos that start blaring the moment a page loads, or that start playing while you scroll? Autoplay Stopper blocks autoplay of HTML5 video and audio on every website, including embedded players on news sites and blogs. Nothing plays until you click play on the video itself. HOW IT WORKS • Install it and it works right away: autoplaying video and audio are stopped before they start • To watch something, just click play on the video, or use the player's own buttons or play key • Scrolling never starts a video: only a real click on the player does • Trust a site? Allow autoplay there with one click from the toolbar button FEATURES • Stops autoplay video and audio, including media added later by scripts, players inside iframes and Shadow DOM • Also stops muted autoplay videos (optional), and if a site unmutes a video without your click, it gets paused • Media you start yourself always plays normally • One-click toggle for the current site, plus a global on/off switch • Allowlist or blocklist mode: disable autoplay everywhere except trusted sites, or only on the sites you choose • Site rules also apply to subdomains and embedded frames • Badge shows how many videos and audio elements were blocked on the page • Import / export your settings • Light and dark mode (follows your system theme) PRIVACY • No data collection, no analytics, no tracking, no ads • No remote code: all code runs locally • Settings are stored in your browser (Pro can sync rules through your own Chrome sync) • It runs on every site only so it can stop media before it starts; nothing is collected or sent anywhere (except the optional Pro license check below) PRO (OPTIONAL, ONE-TIME PURCHASE) • 3.99 EUR one-time, no subscription; one license key works in up to 3 Chrome browsers • Adds site-rule sync across your devices (via Chrome sync) and custom wildcard rules (e.g. *.news.*); everything above stays free • Buy it from the extension's Settings page (Upgrade to Pro); payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy • Pro's only network request is a weekly license check that sends just the key Free, and a modern Manifest V3 alternative to the classic autoplay blockers that stopped working when Chrome retired Manifest V2.
