Auto Color Code Events for Google Calendar
Overview
Auto color code events by title keyword: build if-then rules and watch matching events recolor on the calendar grid.
Every week you color code your Google Calendar by hand — the same standups, the same client calls, the same gym slots, recolored one event at a time. There is no built-in way to say "if the title contains standup, make it blue"; until now that needed an Apps Script. This extension is that missing rule engine. Write if-then rules once — title contains, title starts with, or a regular expression — pick a color for each, and every matching event on the calendar grid is recolored the moment it renders. Rules are checked from top to bottom and the first match wins, so specific rules can sit above catch-all ones, and you reorder them with the arrows. Nothing is written back to your calendar. The color is a local overlay drawn in your browser, so a rule can never damage an event and deleting a rule restores the original colors instantly. It also means the colors appear on the web calendar grid in this browser only — phone apps, your other devices and your guests keep seeing the original event colors. How to use 1. Install it and open your calendar in a browser tab. 2. Click the toolbar icon, then "Add rule". 3. Type a keyword and pick a color — the grid recolors immediately, with no reload. 4. Add more rules and use the arrows to decide which one wins. What it does • If-then rules: title contains, title starts with, or matches a regular expression • A color picker per rule, with automatic light or dark label text so pale colors stay readable • First-match-wins ordering you control with up and down arrows • Case-sensitive matching when you need it, off by default • Works in month, week, day, custom-week and schedule views • Recolors as you switch views and scroll, and the instant you edit a rule • Rules ride along with your browser profile, so they follow you to another computer • No sign-in, no OAuth screen, no account connection, no server — it all runs in your browser • One master switch turns every rule off and your calendar looks exactly as it did before Independent extension, not affiliated with Google.
