Asana Essentials
Overview
Productivity tools for Asana — standup timer, speaker queue, and more.
Asana Essentials adds powerful, privacy-first standup and summarisation tools directly into the Asana web UI — run standups, highlight tasks, and generate fast AI summaries without leaving your project board. KEY FEATURES • Per-speaker timer with pause, extend, skip, and overtime tracking; keyboard controls (Space, →/←, S, +, Esc). • Auto-built speaker queue from project members with shuffle or fixed-order modes and real-time progress (e.g., 2/5). • Task highlighting: dims unrelated items and highlights the current speaker’s cards in board and list views. • Session history: stores the last 30 standups locally with per-speaker stats (longest speaker, average time, skip counts). • End-of-standup summary modal with per-speaker stats and export options. • Popup UI for history, settings, model cache management, and About view. AI SUMMARISER (MULTI-MODE, PRIVACY-FOCUSED) • Local in-browser models (WebGPU/WebLLM): run inference 100% locally in an offscreen context — zero data leaves your device. • Local server support: connect to your own OpenAI-compatible server (Ollama, LM Studio, etc.) on localhost/LAN. • Direct API mode: connect using your own API keys (Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic); requests go directly from your browser to the provider over HTTPS (the extension does not proxy data). • Four summary personas: Standard, Executive Brief, Technical Deep-Dive, and Action Items First. • Model & cache manager: pre-download model weights, inspect cache sizes, and clear stored weights from the popup. PRIVACY & DATA HANDLING • Local-first by design: settings, standup history, API keys (stored locally), and cached model weights are persisted only in your browser profile (chrome.storage.local / Cache Storage). • No telemetry: the extension collects no analytics, tracking pixels, or crash reports. • Data transmission only when you opt in: local WebLLM and local-server modes transmit no data; direct API mode sends task text directly to the chosen provider over HTTPS. • You can clear stored data via the popup or by uninstalling the extension. RELIABILITY & ACCESSIBILITY • Robust DOM integration: centralized selector registry and scoped MutationObservers to survive Asana SPA changes; floating fallback if the toolbar is unavailable. • Error boundaries and defensive async handling prevent the extension from crashing the host page. • Accessibility improvements: aria-labels and keyboard-first controls. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install and open any Asana project with assigned tasks — the widget mounts into the project toolbar (or as a floating widget if needed). 2. Start a standup: members are queued automatically, tasks are highlighted, and speaker summaries are available on demand. 3. Review end-of-standup stats and earlier sessions from the popup. CROSS-BROWSER & SPECS • Built with Plasmo (MV3), React 18, and TypeScript. Supports Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. • No external servers required for core features — local models and direct browser-to-provider API options available.
