Overview

Use App Timer to set website time limits, track screen time, and block distracting sites. Build better browsing habits in Chrome.

App Timer is a website timer for Chrome that helps you decide how long to stay before you start scrolling. Set website time limits, see your daily screen time, and choose what happens when your countdown ends. A quick visit can stay a quick visit. MAKE ROOM FOR WHAT MATTERS Checking a feed, watching a video, or catching up on the news can take longer than you planned. This browser extension adds a simple pause before you dive in: how much time do you want to spend here? Pick a duration and browse with a clear stopping point in mind. ADD A SITE IN ONE CLICK Open a website, click the extension icon, and select Add this site. Your saved websites are managed in settings, so you can choose where you want a little extra structure. Use it for social media, entertainment, shopping, or other places where you tend to lose track of time. CHOOSE YOUR OWN PACE • Start with a 5, 10, or 30-minute session. • Enter a custom duration when you need a different limit. • See how much time remains from the toolbar popup. • Choose a new duration when you want to continue. Whether you need a short break or a longer visit, the controls stay simple and close at hand. DECIDE HOW YOUR SESSION ENDS App Timer gives you three ways to respond when time is up: • Block the site: cover the page with a blurred overlay until you explicitly start another timer. • Close the tab: automatically close the current timed tab. • Show a reminder: get an on-page prompt while keeping the page open. Choose the behavior directly from the popup or change it in settings. The default is Block the site. SEE WHERE TODAY'S TIME WENT Use the built-in screen time tracker to see how long you have spent on each saved site today. A progress bar and percentage put that total in context using a 16-hour waking day. Your daily totals combine visits across tabs and reset at local midnight, making it easier to notice which browsing habits deserve your attention. COUNT ACTIVE BROWSING The countdown follows the active tab in your focused Chrome window. Watching a video counts even when you are not moving the mouse or typing. Opening the extension popup or its settings keeps the current session running. Switching to a different tab, leaving Chrome, or locking your screen pauses that site's countdown. TAKE MORE INTENTIONAL BREAKS Use a social media timer to put a boundary around a quick feed check. Set a video break before returning to a project, or give yourself a few minutes to read the headlines. These small decisions can help you reduce distractions while leaving you in control of when to keep going and when to move on. START IN THREE STEPS 1. Visit a website you want to manage. 2. Open App Timer and select Add this site. 3. Choose your session length and what should happen when it ends. On later visits, the prompt helps you make that choice again. Navigating between pages on the same website keeps the current timer; a new tab starts a separate session. KEEP YOUR CONTROLS CLOSE The toolbar popup brings together your remaining time, time spent today, and expiration behavior. The on-page reminder also shows your usage and lets you start another timer. You can remove saved sites or clear your time history in settings whenever you want. LOCAL STORAGE, NO ACCOUNT Your saved sites, settings, and time history stay in your browser. App Timer has no analytics or remote tracking, and you do not need to create an account. It requests website access so it can display its controls on sites you choose to add; timer scripts run on those saved sites. IS THIS A DAILY LIMIT OR A SESSION TIMER? You choose a limit for each visit rather than a fixed daily allowance. Today's total is there for awareness, while the countdown guides the current session. This website time tracker focuses on browsing in Chrome, not time spent in desktop or mobile apps. WHAT DOES BLOCKING DO? The site blocker places an overlay over the page to interrupt browsing. You can continue by starting a new timer. It is a tool for personal focus, not a locked parental control, and it does not stop background audio. Chrome's internal pages and other pages that disallow extensions are not supported. Build a more mindful browsing routine with a clear beginning, a visible countdown, and a moment to decide what comes next. Add your first site and make your next break intentional.
