Aperture
Overview
A calm, fast new tab. Place, order and resize 13 widgets. Your fonts, your colours. Free, no account, no tracking.
Aperture replaces your new tab with a single page you actually own. Thirteen widgets. Put any of them anywhere on a 3×3 grid, set the order when several share a spot, and size each one independently — by dragging on the page, or from the settings panel. Nothing is a fixed slot you have to live with. EVERY FEATURE IS FREE Aperture sits in the same class as Momentum and Tabliss, and the things comparable extensions sell as an upgrade are simply included: • Multiple todo lists, not just one • A full notes scratchpad • Countdown to any date and time • World clocks for any number of time zones • A pomodoro work/break timer • Mantras — your own words, rotated back to you There is no paid tier, no trial, and no upsell. There is nothing to buy. THE WIDGETS Clock · Greeting · Focus prompt · Search · Weather · Links · Quote · Todo · Notes · Countdown · World clocks · Pomodoro · Mantra Seven are on out of the box; the rest are one click away. MAKE IT YOURS • Backgrounds: a curated offline pack, Wikimedia's Picture of the Day, Openverse, your own upload, or a plain colour • Load your own font — any .woff2, .woff, .ttf or .otf file • Set the text colour, or let it adapt to whatever photo is showing • Accent colour and scrim strength • Everything applies live. There is no save button. PRIVACY BY CONSTRUCTION, NOT BY PROMISE • One permission: "storage". No browsing history, no tabs, no site content. Aperture cannot see the pages you visit, because it was never given the ability to. • No account. No server the developer operates. No analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting. • Nothing happens on install. Weather never guesses where you are — it shows a "Set your location" prompt until you ask it to. • Fonts and wallpapers you add stay on your device. They are read locally and handed to the browser directly; nothing is uploaded anywhere. • Every background photo is credited on the page, with a link to its source and licence. Fully open source under the MIT licence. The privacy claims above are not marketing copy — you can read the code that backs each one.
