Overview

Capture, edit, and keep your screenshots. Export images and smart-split PDFs locally.

Tallshot turns any browser tab into a clean screenshot, a marked-up image, or a multi-page PDF — without sending a single pixel to a server. Capture what you see, capture an entire scrolling page, or pick any screen or window. Then draw on it, erase mistakes, redact private details, crop it, and export it as PNG, JPG, or PDF. Everything runs locally in your browser, on your machine. WHAT YOU CAN CAPTURE Capture current tab One click grabs the visible area of the page you are on, along with its URL and the time it was taken. Capture full page Tallshot scrolls the page from top to bottom, captures each screen, and stitches the pieces into a single tall image. Content that loads while scrolling is included. Sticky headers and floating menus are hidden during the scroll so they do not repeat down the image, and your original scroll position is restored when it finishes. The result goes into the same editor, history, and export tools as any other capture. Choose screen or window Use Chrome's own picker to capture an entire screen, an application window, or another tab. Sharing stops immediately once the image is taken. EDITOR Every capture opens in a built-in editor. No upload, no round trip. Draw Freehand pen with four stroke widths (3, 6, 12, and 24 pixels) and a color picker. Erase Drag over anything you have drawn in the current editing session to remove just part of it — no need to undo a whole stroke. The eraser restores the real pixels from the screenshot underneath, so it never leaves white holes in your image. It works on freehand strokes and uses the same width options as the pen. Boxes, arrows, text, and redaction blocks stay movable objects instead, so you remove one of those with Delete while it is selected. Box Draw rectangles to frame the part that matters. Arrow Drag from where the arrow starts to whatever you want to point at. The head scales with the stroke width. Move Boxes, arrows, text, and redaction blocks stay live objects until you save: click one to select it, drag to reposition it, pull a corner handle to resize it (text scales its font, an arrow re-aims from either end), nudge it with the arrow keys, or remove it with Delete. Text Type labels directly onto the image. Crop Trim to the region you actually want to share. Undo and redo stay accurate across crops, both before and after. Redact Cover sensitive text with a solid block. Redaction is applied to the saved and exported image, not just shown on screen — once you save, the covered pixels are gone from the stored copy. Undo and redo Twelve steps of history while you edit. EXPORT PNG Lossless export, straight from the editor. JPG Available under the More menu, and selectable as your default capture format in settings. PDF Export a capture as a PDF in A4 portrait, A4 landscape, or Full image (the whole screenshot placed on one page, scaled to fit). Smart page splitting Long screenshots do not have to break across a page in the middle of a line of text. Tallshot analyzes the strip of pixels near each page boundary and picks the row with the least content to cut on. It is a heuristic, not OCR, so it is not a guarantee — but in practice it moves most page breaks into whitespace instead of through a sentence. PDF footer Optionally stamp the source URL and the capture date and time at the bottom of each page. Times follow your machine's locale. Long URLs are trimmed to fit. Copy to clipboard Copy the image as PNG and paste it straight into a document, chat, or ticket. Fit Google Docs limits On by default. Images larger than 25,000,000 pixels are downscaled for the clipboard copy only, so Google Docs accepts them. Your original capture is never modified. HISTORY Every capture is saved locally with its URL and timestamp. Search your history, reopen a capture in the editor, download it as PNG, or delete it. Captures and settings live in the Chrome profile on this computer — nothing is uploaded, and nothing syncs to another device. Deleting an item from history does not touch files you already downloaded. Uninstalling the extension removes the extension's local data. SETTINGS Open settings from the sidebar, or right-click the extension icon and choose Options. Image format — PNG or JPG for captures and auto-downloads. The PNG and JPG buttons in the editor still let you pick per export. PDF paper — A4 portrait, A4 landscape, or Full image. URL and date/time — whether the PDF footer carries the source URL and capture time. Smart page splitting — on or off. Download directory — a subfolder inside your Downloads folder. Save as — ask where to put each file when downloading a single image. Auto-download — capture a tab and save it immediately in your chosen format, without opening a result tab. It is still recorded in history. Fit Google Docs limits — downscale oversized images for clipboard copies. PRIVACY Tallshot processes everything on your device. - No server. Captures are never uploaded anywhere. - No CDN or remote code. All scripts ship inside the extension. - No account, no sign-in, no tracking, no analytics. - No ads. - Images and settings stay in your local Chrome profile. Permissions and why they are needed: activeTab and scripting — to read the current tab's dimensions and capture it, and to scroll it during a full-page capture. Only on the tab you explicitly capture. storage — to keep your settings and capture history on this device. downloads — to save PNG, JPG, and PDF files to your Downloads folder. clipboardWrite — to copy a capture to your clipboard when you press Copy. GOOD FOR - Filing bug reports with the exact screen, annotated and redacted - Archiving a long article, invoice, or dashboard as one tall image or a clean PDF - Building step-by-step documentation from real screens - Saving a receipt or confirmation page before it disappears - Sharing a design review with boxes and notes drawn directly on it LIMITS WORTH KNOWING Full-page capture works on HTTP and HTTPS pages that scroll the main document vertically. It does not scroll inside iframes or independent scroll boxes, and it does not capture content that overflows horizontally. Chrome's own pages, PDF viewer pages, and the Web Store do not allow extensions to scroll them — use Capture current tab there instead. Full-page captures are capped at 32,760 pixels per side and 100 million pixels in total. If a page is longer than that, zoom out and try again. Infinite-scroll feeds may exceed the limit. Pages that load very slowly or change layout while scrolling may not come out complete. PDFs embed high-quality JPEG images, so text inside the image is not searchable text. Screen and window captures taken through Chrome's picker have no URL attached, because the API does not report the source's address. Chrome controls capture permissions and the "Ask where to save each file before downloading" setting. Turn that setting off when using auto-download. On macOS you may need to grant Chrome Screen Recording permission before screen and window capture works. Very large images are still bound by your machine's memory and canvas limits.
