Locally scrub and tokenize PII and secrets in text fields before you send them anywhere.
AnonymizeShield replaces personal details in a text box with placeholders, before you send them anywhere. Put your cursor in any text box and press Option+Shift+A (Alt+Shift+A on Windows and Linux). Emails, phone numbers, credit card numbers, national insurance and social security numbers, dates of birth, postal codes, IP addresses and API keys are replaced in place (jane@corp.com becomes [EMAIL_1]) and a message tells you exactly what changed. Changed your mind? Option+Shift+Z puts your original text back. Only want part of it hidden? Select the text, right-click, and choose "Anonymize Selected Text". The rest of the box is left alone. EVERYTHING HAPPENS ON YOUR MACHINE There are no servers. Nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, and there is no analytics or crash reporting of any kind. The extension does nothing at all until you press the shortcut — it does not watch you type and does not read pages in the background. Password fields are never touched. WHAT IT CATCHES Email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, social security and national insurance numbers, dates of birth, postal and ZIP codes, IP addresses, and API keys and tokens in common formats. Numbers that fail their own validity check are still caught when they are clearly labelled as what they claim to be, because a mistyped card number is exactly as sensitive as a correct one. YOUR OWN PATTERNS Some things only you would recognise as sensitive: your street address, a family member's name, an internal ticket format, a project codename. Add them in the settings panel, as plain text or as a regular expression, and give each one a name — call it "Home address" and it appears in your text as [HOME_ADDRESS_1]. You can also switch off any category you don't want scrubbed. WHERE IT WORKS Ordinary text boxes, comment fields, chat composers, and rich text editors including ProseMirror, Quill, CodeMirror, Draft.js, Lexical and TinyMCE. It reaches text boxes inside embedded frames, and handles values broken up by formatting — an address with the domain in bold is still one address. Two editors, Slate and CKEditor 5, keep their own copy of the text and win any disagreement with the page. Rather than make a mess of your half-written message, the extension recognises them and says plainly that it can't scrub that box. Being told beats being misled. HONEST ABOUT ITS LIMITS A scrub tells you what it changed, and if a change doesn't take, it says so instead of claiming success. If something puts your original text back (an editor's own undo, for instance) it tells you the details are on screen again rather than letting you send them by accident. No detector catches everything. This one is a strong net for the common shapes, not a guarantee, so read what you're about to send.
