Overview

Highlight and annotate articles, video and podcasts — in Chrome's side panel.

Annotated is a side panel for highlighting, clipping and annotating what you read and watch — articles, video and podcasts, with the source always attached. Use it to fact-check the web line by line, in public: the passage or the moment itself, with your take beside it and a page anyone can open. Open the panel and highlight a sentence on any page: the passage stages itself as you drag, with the source already attached. Or right-click a selection and choose "Clip with Annotated" to open the panel with it. On a YouTube video, the player opens by itself; on a podcast page, press "Use this episode" and Annotated reads the whole source. Whichever way you start, the panel opens beside the page — not over it — so you never lose your place. Nothing is drawn on the pages you visit. No floating buttons, no toolbars, no badges. WHAT YOU CAN CLIP • Articles — the text, plus title, author, site and publication date • Video and audio — up to 90 seconds, so a clip stays a quotation • Anything you highlight, from any http or https page WHAT YOU DO WITH IT • Write a take, or record one — spoken or on camera • Publish it to a page with a permanent link you can share anywhere • Keep it private instead; not everything needs an audience • Reply to other people's takes with a citation attached THE REST OF THE PANEL • People — find someone by name or handle, and follow them • Context — community notes on a source, which stay with the people rating them until enough of them call a note helpful • Feed and Activity — what the people you follow have clipped, and replies to your own THE SOURCE IS ALWAYS ATTACHED Every clip carries where it came from. There is no way to publish one without attribution, because a clip without its source is just an assertion. Rights holders can file a claim on any public page. WHY THE SIDE PANEL Annotating is something you do while reading, not after it. A popup closes the moment you click away and a new tab means leaving the page. The panel stays open across tab switches and follows along, so the thought and the thing you are thinking about stay on screen together. PRIVACY Nothing you read leaves the page as text until you clip it. While the panel is open it does ask our server whether the page in front of you already has context notes — by a one-way hash of the address, never the address itself. Annotated contains no analytics SDK and shows no ads. Sign-in is Google or X only — Annotated never sees a password. Full policy: https://annotatedbounty.dev/privacy
