Annotated — Share the part

Share the part, not just the link. Annotated is a focused Chrome side panel for turning one exact passage, video moment, or podcast segment into a source-linked annotation. Start from the current tab, paste a website address to open it, or review a short-lived request prepared through the Annotated API or MCP. Select text or capture the current media position, add a written take or a short voice note, review the source and commentary together, then choose **Review & share** to open the hosted review directly. Opening a pasted address or agent request does not read or capture that page, and nothing is published by opening the side panel or making a draft. What ships: - Capture a live text selection with its page title, publisher/author when available, canonical URL, and bounded text anchors - For accepted selections up to 10,000 characters, keep the complete immutable anchor while limiting the public article excerpt to 100 Unicode-aware words; reject longer selections before draft creation instead of silently truncating the anchor - Paste a credential-free HTTP(S) source URL from first run or the regular composer; Annotated opens it, then waits for a separate toolbar/side-panel or selection-menu capture gesture on that tab - Mark a video or podcast range no longer than 90 seconds - Review an expiring **Agent inbox · local draft** request. The request can suggest a safe public source and search words or one prepared range, but it cannot read, seek, record, attest to rights, send, or publish for the person - Optionally use **Moment Finder** after pressing **Find** to search only the active same-source tab's own exposed caption track; matching stays in the browser, nothing is sent to Annotated or a transcription service, and choosing a result sets the range and seeks the source player - For an agent request, separately send only the selected timestamp, bounded snippet, source URL, and caption fingerprint with **Send moment to agent**—never the search query or full transcript - Apply and review an agent-prepared locked range, then independently confirm sharing rights, visibly replay-record it, and choose **Send clip to agent**; the extension rejects drift to a different range - Open **Adjust range** and use **Grab the last** 30s, 60s, or 90s when the player exposes enough prior seekable history; a choice only resets the proposed range, and source media is replay-recorded in real time after a separate Record click—never recovered from a background buffer - Explicitly scan the current public source with Annotation Radar to see bounded public annotations and cited media moments already attached to that normalized URL; Radar is URL-only and on demand - Add up to 5,000 characters of written commentary or a voice note no longer than two minutes - Autosave the current draft and recover it after the side panel or service worker closes - Keep a local list of up to 50 hosted-preview shortcuts - Review the complete source-linked card before website sign-in or publication; the hosted state is labeled **Local proof · not published** - Use the companion agent workspace to create expiring, scoped API keys, inspect private jobs, hand a browser-only job to the extension, and retrieve an inspectable receipt after the person returns a result - Reopen the original source from every published annotation - Use a direct **Open original source** link on every public feed card and annotation page - Use the companion website for public feed, profiles, follows, comments, applause, reports, receipt-backed replies and Evidence Threads, a private-by-default Creator Resolution Center, portable Proof Cards whose QR opens the exact public annotation, and a prominent private **File a claim** intake on every annotation page - Review public, project-generated rights-cleared video and podcast sample annotations under the neutral **Annotated Sample** profile For a video or podcast draft, Annotated also offers a source-tab clip. It may be skipped while drafting or reviewing but must be completed before publishing that media annotation. After checking **I have the right to share this short excerpt.** and pressing the dedicated Record control, Chrome records the visible contents and audio of only the invoked active tab for the chosen interval. This is not necessarily limited to the page's video element. It does not capture browser chrome or other tabs. Chrome shows its recording indicator, the side panel shows a countdown and Stop control, and the clip auto-stops at 90 seconds or earlier. Source-tab video is downscaled to at most 426×240 (240p), limited to 30 fps and 16 MiB; podcast capture is audio-only. The user can play the result locally, discard it, and cancel publication. In an active agent job, recording still does not return the clip until the person separately presses **Send clip to agent**. Annotated's optional direct-media worker is a distinct rights-gated path for an explicitly authorized direct media URL; automatic jobs otherwise fail closed to a browser, upload, or locator-only handoff. Privacy by design: - Annotated reads a page only after a toolbar, side-panel, or selection-menu gesture - It has no persistent content script and requests no host permissions - Moment Finder runs only after **Find**, reads only an exposed caption track in the active tab that matches the captured source, and keeps the query, cue text, and results transient in the browser; it performs no transcription and sends none of that content to Annotated - An agent offer durably stores only a safe source URL, opaque job ID, received/expiry times, and lifecycle. Its capability, query, prepared snippet/range, and result binding stay in memory and disappear on service-worker restart - **Send moment to agent** and **Send clip to agent** are separate explicit actions over an exact-origin, expiring, job-bound channel. The former sends only the selected result and caption fingerprint; the latter transfers only the reviewed local clip and its bounded metadata - Radar runs only after **Scan this source**, sends only a validated active public URL with credentials omitted and no referrer, and never reads page text, cookies, or browsing history - Before Radar, hosted Preview, source-clip staging, or publication can transmit or persist a source, Annotated validates every supplied current/canonical URL as credential-free HTTP(S) on a public hostname. Query keys associated with access/signed links or authentication callbacks—including `key`, `code`, `state`, `auth_code`, OTP, token, signature, and OAuth verifier controls—cause the action to fail; they are rejected before canonicalization, never silently stripped into an apparently safe URL - The pasted-URL launcher only opens the destination. The user must invoke Annotated on the opened tab before it can read the page - Selection-menu capture is consent-gated: before onboarding consent, Annotated stores no selection, URL, or other page data and opens the disclosure instead - Incognito operation is disabled by `incognito: "not_allowed"` and rejected at runtime - Drafts, voice notes, and source clips begin in this Chrome profile - Preview metadata uses the new tab's URL fragment, which is not sent in the page's HTTP request - Voice and source-clip bytes transfer only to `https://annotated-source-clips.vercel.app` through 256-bit, single-use capabilities that expire after five minutes - Google/X sign-in and live social actions happen on the companion website, not inside the extension - Agent API keys, job ledgers, private transcripts, clip intents, rights grants, and receipts are website-owned; the extension never stores an API key or website session - Publishing is a separate, explicit action - The header says **Draft · Article**, **Draft · Video**, or **Draft · Audio**, and completed autosave says **Saved**. Radar's built-in fallback and article example are visibly illustrative/local, the seeded profile is **Annotated Sample**, and neither presents the example as live activity. The illustrative article keeps **Review & share** disabled and cannot create a Library shortcut; a live page selection is required first Annotated preserves the accepted public source URL and capture selectors supplied by the extension. Preview and the service independently revalidate both supplied URL fields before handoff, source-clip staging, or publish, but the service does not independently refetch or certify the source page, quote, or the user's media rights. Receipt-backed replies and Evidence Threads link one public annotation to another public annotation and its original source. They preserve a navigable citation trail; they are not a truth, provenance, or rights certification. Creator-resolution working records, submission/publication audit, and claimant details remain private. A claimant statement can appear only after the claimant makes the exact wording eligible and the annotation owner separately publishes it; the owner can withdraw it, and public copy says identity and relationship are unverified. Creator responses appear only when their individual event is explicitly marked public. The public payload omits claim/reference IDs, workflow state, update/private-transition timing, and private intake fields. Chrome-managed pages such as `chrome://` URLs and the Chrome Web Store do not allow normal page extraction or source-tab recording. Annotated is not available in Incognito.
