AnkiPilot: AI Cards for Anki
Overview
AnkiPilot creates reviewable Anki cards using your own AI key or a local model.
AnkiPilot helps students turn study material into focused Anki cards. Highlight key text or open the study-card panel on a webpage, choose the card draft target and card depth, capture why the question was missed, review AI-generated drafts with rationale and quality checks, and add cards to Anki through AnkiConnect. Designed for medical studying and Step 2-style review workflows, AnkiPilot can help capture key learning points, search existing AnKing notes by QID, and add Basic or AnKing cloze cards. AnkiPilot is free. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no plans. An optional donation link in the popup goes to the developer's PayPal donation page and unlocks nothing. You supply the AI access in one of two ways: - Your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. Your key is stored encrypted in browser storage, which may sync according to your browser settings, and is sent directly to the selected provider for authentication. AnkiPilot runs no server and receives nothing. - A local model you run on your own computer with Ollama. Generation requests stay on your computer. Browser speech recognition and browser/Anki synchronization are separate and may use remote services. On UWorld and AMBOSS pages, AnkiPilot reads only the question ID and uses it to find matching AnKing notes in your own collection. You type what you missed in your own words, and cards on those pages are generated with a local model only. Anki must be open with the AnkiConnect add-on installed for cards to reach your deck. You stay in control: review every card before it is added to Anki. AI output can be wrong, so check each card against a source you trust. AnkiPilot is not affiliated with Anki, AnKing, UWorld, AMBOSS, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Chrome.
