Stop Motion Animator
Overview
Make Stop Motion videos using your webcam
Stop Motion Animator — make stop-motion movies with your webcam. Free, offline, no account. Shoot LEGO brickfilms, claymation, paper cutouts, drawn animations, or classroom science projects one frame at a time, preview them instantly, add a voiceover, and save the finished film to your computer. Everything runs locally in your browser — your photos and audio never leave your device. A STUDIO THAT EXPLAINS ITSELF The editor is one calm, single-screen workspace — every tool is in view at once, nothing buried in menus. • A big live stage sits front and center, with the three controls you actually use — Undo, Capture, and Play — right beneath it and a Slow–Fast speed slider in the same bar. • A header keeps your film's name, the camera on/off control and camera picker, and Open / Guide / Save movie one click away. • A tidy column of tool cards runs down the side, each always visible: – Onion skin: see faint "ghost" frames of your last shots so you can line up the next move, with controls for how many ghost frames (1–3) and how strong they look. – Stage: Flip the picture (for tripod-mounted or upside-down webcams), a Metronome that blinks a beat at your frame rate to help you time each capture, and a Camera on/off toggle. – Sound: record a voiceover over your animation. – Project: clear all frames (behind a confirmation), rate the app, and share it. • A filmstrip along the bottom shows every frame as a thumbnail. Hover a frame to delete or duplicate it, or drag to reorder — fix a mistake without starting over. NEVER LOSE YOUR WORK • Your animation autosaves as you shoot. If you accidentally close or reload the tab, the editor offers to restore exactly where you left off. • Saving is reliable, even for long films: the finished .webm is re-checked before it downloads, and a confirmation toast ("Saved MyMovie.webm ✓") tells you it actually finished. A 35-second movie is round-tripped on every release to prove long films save and re-open cleanly. • Open a saved movie any time to keep adding frames — it returns with its thumbnails, playback speed, and recorded voiceover intact. A damaged or non-video file shows a clear message instead of freezing the editor. CREATIVE CONTROLS • Onion-skinning for smooth, consistent motion. • A metronome to keep a steady shooting rhythm. • Per-frame delete, duplicate, and drag-to-reorder. • Adjustable playback from 2 to 12 FPS — find the speed where the motion looks just right. • Voiceover recording that counts you in 3-2-1, plays your movie while you narrate, and mixes the audio into the saved file. WORKS IN MORE THAN 40 LANGUAGES The entire interface — buttons, tooltips, dialogs, hints, and the live status line with its numbers — is translated into more than 40 languages, with full right-to-left layout for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu. BUILT-IN GUIDE A Welcome & Features page walks through every tool with screenshots and a quick-start checklist that remembers your progress, plus "Try it now" buttons that open the editor and highlight the exact control being described. It opens only when you click the Guide link — never on its own. THE CORE WORKFLOW 1. Click the toolbar icon — your camera starts automatically. 2. Press Space (or click Capture) to shoot a frame, nudge your subject a little, and capture again. Turn on Onion skin to line each move up against the last. 3. Press Play to preview; drag the Slow–Fast slider until the motion looks right. Switch on the Metronome to keep a steady beat. 4. Record a voiceover — it counts down 3-2-1, then plays your movie while recording your narration. 5. Save downloads a .webm video that plays in any modern player. Open it again whenever you want to keep going. PRIVATE BY DESIGN — MADE FOR FAMILIES AND CLASSROOMS • No account, no sign-in, and no tracking of what you make. Your frames, your audio, and your finished films stay on your computer. • The editor and guide make no network requests — verified by an automated test suite that guards every release, covering long-film saving, damaged-file loading, microphone-denial recovery, the voiceover pipeline, and the interface in every supported language. Camera access is requested only when the editor opens; the microphone is used only while you record a voiceover. Change Log 1.0.3 Fixed a bug where you could not load a previously saved video.
