Anchorite blocks distractions by understanding them, not by listing them. Before you start work, you say what you are working on — "revise integration by substitution for the C3 exam", "draft the funding proposal", "debug the payment webhook" — and you set how long. From that moment every page you open is judged against that sentence. Pages that serve the mission open normally. Pages that do not are covered before they render. WHY A BLOCKLIST IS NOT ENOUGH Traditional blockers work from a list of banned sites, which fails in both directions. YouTube holds both the lecture you need and four hours you will regret. A blocklist cannot tell them apart, so you either block the lecture or allow the four hours. Meanwhile the genuinely distracting page is always the one you did not think to add to the list. Anchorite judges the page, not the domain. The same YouTube URL is allowed during one mission and blocked during another, because relevance is a property of what you are doing, not of the website. THE SESSION DOES NOT NEGOTIATE There is no "just five more minutes", no snooze, and no unlock button. You chose the length while you were thinking clearly. Anchorite holds you to it. The block page shows your own mission back to you and the time remaining, and that is the entire argument. The session survives quitting the browser, restarting the machine, and switching the extension off and on again — it resumes exactly where it was. LOCK IT SO IT CANNOT BE SWITCHED OFF One honest gap: you can disable the extension in your browser's extensions page and browse freely while it is off. No extension can prevent that — browsers deliberately forbid an extension from protecting itself, and every blocker ever written is subject to the same rule. What browsers do allow is an administrator requiring an extension. Anchorite publishes that profile, for Chrome and Brave, on macOS and Windows. Install it and the disable toggle and the Remove button disappear — not greyed out, gone. Switching Anchorite off stops being a one-click reflex and becomes a deliberate act needing your administrator password, which is exactly the point: the thing it defends against is impulse, not planning. Paste a Spotify or YouTube playlist link and it stays open for the session, without opening the rest of the site with it. - YouTube's recommendation feed is stripped rather than blocked, so you can search for and watch what you actually meant to watch. HOW IT DECIDES Three stages, cheapest first. Fixed rules handle the obvious cases. A small language model running inside your browser handles most of the rest, with no network request at all. Only genuinely ambiguous pages are sent for a judgement — and if that judgement is ever unavailable, Anchorite tells you loudly rather than quietly letting everything through. PRICING Anchorite is free during early release. Each install gets 200 AI judgements; after that it keeps running on its built-in rules and on-device matching, which between them settle most pages without contacting a server at all.
