YT Summary: summaries for YouTube

A brief and a full summary of any YouTube video in one click, in the side panel, with your own OpenRouter and Gemini keys.

YT Summary adds a "Summarize" button to the video page and to YouTube thumbnails. One click opens the side panel with a three-to-five-point brief; a second button produces the full summary, organized by concept and sized to the length of the video. Every sentence is clickable and jumps to the exact moment of the video. How it works • The transcript is read from the video's subtitles, right in the browser. • The summary is written by the model you choose on OpenRouter, with your own API key: you pay only for what you use, or use the free-models router. • For videos without subtitles, with a Google AI Studio key, Gemini transcribes the video once. • Under every summary you see the cost in tokens and dollars. • Briefs, summaries and transcripts stay in a local cache for as long as you choose (from 1 day to forever). • Summaries in the language you pick in the options, whatever the language of the video. Getting started 1. After installation the options page opens on "Getting started": create a free key on openrouter.ai and paste it. 2. Choose Free (free models, no credit needed) or Paid (a few dollars of OpenRouter credit; with the default model a summary usually costs less than one cent). 3. Open a YouTube video and click "Summarize". Privacy No developer server, no telemetry. The video title and transcript go only to OpenRouter (and to Google for videos without subtitles), with your keys. Your keys stay in your browser. An OpenRouter key is required (openrouter.ai/keys). The interface follows Chrome's language and is available in English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. YT Summary is free.
