Open in Tower (Unofficial)

Open GitHub repositories in your installed Tower Git client. A lightweight, unofficial shortcut with no tracking.

Open the GitHub repository you are viewing in the Tower Git client installed on your computer. The extension adds “Open in Tower” directly to GitHub’s Code menu, immediately below “Open with GitHub Desktop.” You can also use its toolbar popup on repository pages without the clone menu. GitHub’s existing actions remain unchanged. How to use it: 1. Install the official Tower desktop app separately. 2. Visit a repository on GitHub.com. Reload existing GitHub tabs after installing or updating the extension. 3. Open GitHub’s Code menu and choose “Open in Tower,” or use the extension popup. 4. If your browser asks permission to open Tower, approve the handoff. Continue in Tower to authenticate, clone, or open the repository. The shortcut passes the canonical HTTPS repository address, not the current file, branch, commit, query parameters, or fragment. Tower handles authentication and repository operations; the extension does not clone repositories or receive your credentials. Privacy: • Repository detection happens locally in your browser. • The repository address is handed to Tower only when you deliberately choose the action. • No saved repository history, page content, source code, cookies, credentials, tokens, analytics, advertising, or developer-operated server. • Support reports are optional emails you write and send yourself. Requirements and limits: • Requires an installed Tower app that handles gittower:// links. Tower and any required Tower license are not included. • Supports GitHub.com repository pages, not GitHub Enterprise domains or other Git hosts. • Incognito browsing is not supported. • Browser or operating-system settings may require permission to launch the desktop app. Open in Tower (Unofficial) is independent software by Chen He.
