Amee Now Playing

Lets the Amee desktop app see and control media playing in your browser, including video popped out into Picture-in-Picture.

Amee Now Playing connects your browser to Amee, a floating mini player for macOS, so the app can show and control whatever music or video is playing in a tab. macOS tells Amee what is playing in native desktop apps. It reports nothing at all for a browser video you have popped out into Picture-in-Picture — every field goes blank the moment Picture-in-Picture opens. This extension fills that gap: it reads what the page itself declares (title, artist, artwork, position) and sends it to Amee over a local connection on your own machine. WHAT IT DOES • Lists the tabs that are currently playing, with cover art and a live progress bar • Play/pause, skip back and forward, and drag to seek — these act on the tab, so they work even when Amee is closed • Jump straight to the tab that is playing • A Picture-in-Picture button on the video itself, so popping a video out is one click • Keeps Amee showing and controlling the track after the video is in Picture-in-Picture, which is the whole reason it exists WHERE IT WORKS Eleven common music and video streaming sites are supported as soon as it is installed, and a further fifteen can each be switched on individually in the extension's settings. Both lists, and the state of each site, are shown in the settings panel behind the gear icon in the popup; the built-in list is also named in full in the privacy policy linked below. The extension holds no access to the optional sites until you turn one on, and it never asks for access to all websites. REQUIRES THE DESKTOP APP Amee 1.11.0 or later, macOS only — https://amee.thiennguyen.dev. The popup works on its own, but there is nothing for it to pair with without the app. PRIVACY Everything goes to one address: 127.0.0.1:17420, a program on your own computer, and traffic to 127.0.0.1 cannot leave the machine.
