Overview

Add ambient light to YouTube theater mode. Match the video’s colors and customize your glow with presets and lighting controls.

Let the color go beyond the video. Ambient Light for YouTube adds customizable ambient light to YouTube in theater mode. Colors from the edges of the picture flow into a soft glow around the player, giving music videos, concerts, travel films, and everyday watching a more cinematic feel. An ocean scene brings blue to the surrounding page. A sunset adds warm orange. As the scene changes, the light follows. Everything happens inside your browser, with no light strips or extra hardware required. AMBIENT LIGHT THAT FOLLOWS THE PICTURE • Color from all four edges: lighting follows the top, bottom, left, and right of the video. • Smooth color changes: gentle transitions soften sudden shifts in the glow. • Dark scenes stay dark: the default Natural preset keeps the source brightness and saturation. • Your video stays unchanged: lighting appears around the player without changing the picture itself. CHOOSE YOUR LOOK Start with one of three presets: • Soft: a subtle glow close to the player. • Natural: balanced lighting with the video's original brightness and color strength. • Immersive: a wider glow with a small brightness boost. Fine-tune the light intensity up to 200%, adjust how far it spreads, and change its saturation. Switch the effect on or off from the settings side panel. Reset restores the defaults, and Chrome can sync your preferences across your signed-in devices. MADE FOR YOUTUBE THEATER MODE Ambient Light for YouTube gives the video a spacious ambient stage. The title, comments, and recommendations remain below it when you scroll. Move your pointer to the top of the page to reveal YouTube navigation. HOW TO START 1. Install Ambient Light for YouTube and open a video on desktop YouTube. 2. Turn on YouTube's theater mode using the player controls. 3. Click the Ambient Light for YouTube extension icon to choose a preset or adjust the light. Tip: use YouTube's dark theme to make the ambient colors stand out. LOCAL VIDEO PROCESSING Video colors are processed on your device. Ambient Light for YouTube includes no analytics or tracking and does not send video frames or viewing history to the developer. It needs no separate account. Lighting preferences use Chrome storage and may sync through Google when Chrome Sync is enabled. COMPATIBILITY The ambient effect works on desktop YouTube watch pages in theater mode. It does not appear in default view, fullscreen, miniplayer, picture-in-picture, Shorts, embedded videos, or mobile YouTube. Some protected videos may not provide usable colors. Disable other ambient lighting or theater layout extensions if their effects conflict. Bring the colors of your next video beyond the player with Ambient Light for YouTube. Ambient Light for YouTube is an independent extension and is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.
