Choose an AI or browser voice, set a comfortable pace, and follow the passage with sentence highlighting. Right-click and choose Read aloud. 3. Playback starts in a floating player where you can pause, resume, or move between sentences. Prefer a button beside your selection? Your voice, speed, and player preferences stay saved in your browser. 🔊 Choose how your text is spoken • AI voices use Google Cloud Text-to-Speech: 1,553 natural-sounding options in 47 languages. • Browser voices use the speech options available through Chrome and your device. • Browser voices are free and unlimited; AI playback is free up to the daily allowance. Online voices need an internet connection; locally installed voices synthesize speech on your device. ⚙️ Keep control of the reading ➤ Adjust the speed from 0.5× to 3×. ➤ Pause when you need a moment, then resume. ➤ Move back or forward between sentences. ➤ Drag the player to a convenient position. ➤ Switch between compact and expanded views. The text reader stays on the webpage, so you can keep the source in view while listening. Change the pace for a dense explanation or move more quickly through familiar material. 📖 Follow along as you listen Sentence highlighting marks the current sentence on compatible pages, and automatic scrolling keeps it in view. Both can be turned off in settings. Pause to look more closely at a sentence, then pick up where you stopped. Pick a matching voice; the extension reads the selection rather than translating it. 📊 Daily AI allowance AI voice playback includes a daily character allowance. Open the extension to check how much remains. The allowance is counted per internet connection, so people on one network share it. After it is used up, you can continue listening with available browser voices. No account, subscription or document upload is required. The allowance applies to cloud AI speech; browser TTS is always available as another reading option. 🔒 How reading text is handled Cloud AI voices send the selected text through our service to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. Some browser voices also send text to an online provider. Locally installed voices generate speech on your device. Our application does not save your reading text or generated audio in its database. Optional usage statistics exclude selected text and visited page URLs; you can turn them off in the extension popup. Chrome's internal pages, Chrome Web Store pages, and Chrome's built-in PDF viewer are unsupported. Document editors and embedded content can also limit reading or highlighting. ❓ Can I change voices and speed? Yes. Choose from the voices available for your selected voice type and adjust the playback speed in the extension or player. ❓ Does it create voice overs or audio files? No. AI Voice is a text reader, not a voice over generator: it plays your selection on the page and does not export audio files.
