Translations appear prominently above the original titles, so you can understand videos at a glance while keeping the original wording for comparison and language learning. Context-Aware AI Translation Connect a language model to translate titles with attention to context, slang, abbreviations, wordplay, and internet expressions, producing more natural and readable translations. 3. Smart Topic Badges When using a language model, translations can include topic labels such as Tech, News, Music, Finance, and Gaming to help you identify video subjects quickly. Chrome's built-in translation mode does not provide topic classification. 4. On-Device Translation Without an API Key On supported Chrome 138+ setups, the extension can use Chrome's built-in on-device translation when no API key is configured. No paid cloud API is required for this mode. Availability depends on your browser, device, and supported language pair. 5. Cloud AI and Local Model Support Use your own API key to connect a cloud AI service, or configure a compatible custom API endpoint for a local model. Choose the service and model in the extension settings. 6. Local Caching and Click-to-Retry Translation results are cached locally in your browser to reduce repeated requests and API usage. Click an error indicator to retry a failed translation. Titles that already match your target language are skipped automatically. ★ QUICK START 1. Install the extension and open YouTube. 2. Click the extension icon in your browser toolbar and select a target language. 3. Use on-device translation where supported, or configure your own AI service, API key, or local model endpoint for language-model translation and topic badges. 4. Save your settings and refresh YouTube. ★ SUPPORTED TARGET LANGUAGES Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Vietnamese — 12 target languages in total. ★ PRIVACY AND DATA USE • API keys, settings, and translation caches are stored locally in your browser. • In on-device mode, title text is processed by the device's translation functionality. • When using a cloud AI service, video titles are sent directly from your browser to the service endpoint you select. That service processes data under its own privacy policy. • The developer does not operate a translation relay server or use user data for advertising, resale, or purposes unrelated to title translation. ★ PRICING AND OPEN SOURCE The extension is free and open source under the MIT license. Chrome's built-in on-device translation does not require paid cloud API usage. Cloud AI services may charge according to your selected provider's pricing.
