Overview
Audit the active tab for AI-citation readiness (AEO/GEO). 43 checks across crawlability, schema, content, and technical health.
AI-SEO Page Auditor - audit any page for AI-citation readiness in one click Get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. AI-SEO Page Auditor is a free Chrome extension that scores the page you are already viewing across 43 checks for Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and LLM visibility - without copying URLs into another tool. Built by AutomateLab, the same team behind the free AI SEO Checker at automatelab.tech. Same scoring engine. Same six categories. Now inside your browser, on whatever tab you have open. --- WHY AI SEO MATTERS IN 2026 Traditional SEO tools tell you about keywords, backlinks, and Core Web Vitals. AI search systems decide differently. They need pages that are crawlable by AI bots, structured with schema.org JSON-LD, written in answer-shaped prose, and technically safe to fetch. If your robots.txt blocks GPTBot or your content is buried in client-side JavaScript, you will not appear in AI-generated answers - no matter how good your human-facing SEO looks. AI-SEO Page Auditor closes that gap. Open any https page, click the extension icon, and get an instant letter grade (A through F) plus a breakdown of what is helping or hurting your AI citation eligibility. --- WHO THIS IS FOR • Content marketers and SEO specialists optimizing for AI Overviews and zero-click search • Technical SEO consultants auditing client pages during live browser sessions • Developers shipping landing pages, docs, or blog posts who want a pre-publish AI-SEO gate • Growth teams comparing their pages against competitors without leaving the tab • Agencies running AEO/GEO audits who need a fast first pass before a full site crawl • Anyone learning Answer Engine Optimization, Generative Engine Optimization, or LLMO No account required. No API keys. No subscription. --- HOW IT WORKS 1. Navigate to any public https:// page 2. Click the AI-SEO Page Auditor icon in your Chrome toolbar 3. Press Audit this page 4. Review your score, category bars, and top issues in the popup 5. Open Full report on automatelab.tech for the complete check-by-check breakdown The extension reads only the URL of the tab you clicked on (activeTab permission). It fetches page HTML, robots.txt, sitemap, and llms.txt through AutomateLab’s SSRF-hardened audit proxy - the same backend that powers the web tool. Checks run locally in the extension. Results are cached per URL so re-opening the popup on the same page is instant. The toolbar badge shows your letter grade on that exact URL only. Switch tabs or navigate away and the badge clears until you audit the new page. --- YOUR SCORE EXPLAINED Overall score: 0–100, mapped to a letter grade • A (90+) - Excellent AI-citation readiness • B (75–89) - Strong with minor gaps • C (60–74) - Moderate; several fixes recommended • D (40–59) - Weak; major blockers present • F (below 40) - Critical issues; unlikely to be cited Each of the 43 checks is weighted 1–5 by impact. Pass earns full weight, warn earns half, fail earns zero. Category scores are weighted percentages. The overall score is the average across all six categories. --- 43 CHECKS IN SIX CATEGORIES CRAWLABILITY AND INDEXING (7 checks) Can AI crawlers find and access this page? • robots.txt reachable • AI crawlers allowed (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot, and related bots) • XML sitemap reachable • No noindex or nofollow blocking the page • Canonical URL is self-consistent • hreflang annotations present (for multi-locale sites) • Page is not accidentally de-indexed STRUCTURED DATA (7 checks) Does machine-readable markup tell AI systems what this page is? • JSON-LD structured data present • Schema type matches page content (Article, FAQPage, HowTo, Product, Organization, etc.) • Required schema properties populated • OpenGraph tags present • Twitter card meta present • Article author is a Person with sameAs links • Organization JSON-LD with logo CONTENT AND ON-PAGE SEO (12 checks) Is the page written and structured for both humans and answer engines? • Title length between 50 and 60 characters • Meta description between 140 and 160 characters • Exactly one H1 heading • Headings use question phrasing (AEO heuristic for query-shaped content) • Word count above 300 • Internal and outbound links present • Title overlaps with H1 (semantic consistency) • Heading hierarchy is clean (no skipped levels) • Image alt-text coverage above 80% • Anchor text is descriptive (not “click here”) • Reading level: paragraphs and sentences are scannable • Content depth sufficient for citation-worthy answers AI READABILITY (8 checks) Can an LLM extract a direct answer from this page? • llms.txt present at domain root • First paragraph answers in under 60 words (answer density) • Lists or tables present (structured extractability) • Named entities visible (people, products, places) • Author and publication date visible • Content is server-rendered (visible to AI crawlers, not JS-only) • dateModified or last-updated signal is recent • Outbound citations to authoritative domains AGENTIC BROWSING (4 checks) Does the page pass Lighthouse’s Agentic Browsing signals? • llms.txt entry point for AI agents • WebMCP integration declared • Accessibility tree is intact (agents can navigate the DOM) • Media declares explicit width and height (layout stability for automated browsing) TECHNICAL HEALTH (5 checks) Is the page fast, secure, and safe to fetch? • Page served over HTTPS • Mobile viewport meta present • HTML payload under 1 MB and compressed • Hero image has explicit width and height • HSTS header set • Security headers present (CSP, X-Frame-Options, etc.) • No mixed content (HTTP resources on HTTPS page) --- WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER SEO EXTENSIONS Most Chrome SEO extensions focus on meta tags, keyword density, or Lighthouse performance scores. AI-SEO Page Auditor is purpose-built for the AI search era: • AEO and GEO checks, not just classic on-page SEO • AI crawler access in robots.txt (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot) • llms.txt validation for LLM-oriented site maps • Agentic Browsing category aligned with emerging Lighthouse standards • Answer extractability heuristics (first-paragraph density, entity visibility, question-shaped headings) • Schema.org JSON-LD depth, not just “is there structured data” • Same 43-check engine as the AutomateLab AI SEO Checker web tool - consistent scores across extension and full report --- COMMON USE CASES Audit your blog post before publishing You finished a draft in your CMS preview or staging URL. Click the extension, run the audit, fix fails and warnings, then publish with confidence that AI systems can crawl, parse, and cite the page. Benchmark a competitor’s landing page You are on a competitor’s product page. Audit it in place. See which structured data types they use, whether they allow AI crawlers, and how their answer density compares to yours. Check a client site during a live call No need to paste URLs into a separate tool while screen-sharing. Audit the page everyone is looking at and walk through the category scores together. Validate a docs or help-center article Technical documentation often fails AI readability checks (thin content, missing author, no dateModified). Catch those issues on the actual rendered page. Pre-flight check after a deploy Your CI passed, but did the deploy accidentally add noindex, break canonicals, or strip JSON-LD? Audit the live URL immediately after release. --- FULL REPORT DEEP LINK Need every check with evidence snippets and fix guidance? Click Full report in the popup. It opens automatelab.tech/tools/ai-seo-checker/ with your page URL pre-filled and the audit auto-running. The web report shows all 43 checks, pass/warn/fail status, and category drill-down - free, no signup. --- PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS AI-SEO Page Auditor requests minimal permissions: • activeTab - reads the URL of the tab you clicked the icon on. No blanket access to all tabs or browsing history. • storage - caches your last audit result per URL locally in Chrome storage. Nothing is uploaded to a third-party analytics service. • tabs - sets the toolbar badge grade on the specific tab you audited. • https://automatelab.tech/* - calls only AutomateLab’s audit-fetch API to retrieve public page HTML, robots.txt, sitemap, and llms.txt. No other domains are contacted. AutomateLab does not require an account. The extension does not inject ads or trackers. Audit results stay on your device unless you open the full report on automatelab.tech (which runs the same public audit flow as the web tool). --- GLOSSARY OF TERMS THIS EXTENSION HELPS YOU OPTIMIZE AI citation - when ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, or another AI system references your URL as a source in an answer. AI Overview - Google’s AI-generated summary at the top of some search results. Answer extractability - how easily an LLM can pull a standalone answer from a page section. Agentic browsing - automated agents navigating web pages programmatically; Lighthouse now scores llms.txt, WebMCP, accessibility tree, and layout stability under this category. Canonical URL - the preferred URL version for indexing; inconsistencies confuse crawlers. FAQPage schema - JSON-LD markup for question-and-answer content; high ROI for AI visibility. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) - optimizing for generative AI search surfaces. GPTBot - OpenAI’s web crawler used for training and search features. ClaudeBot - Anthropic’s crawler for Claude’s web access features. PerplexityBot - Perplexity’s crawler for real-time search indexing. JSON-LD - JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data; the preferred schema.org format for search and AI systems. llms.txt - a plain-text file at your domain root listing pages you want LLMs to prioritize. noindex - a robots meta tag or header that tells crawlers not to index a page. OpenGraph - Facebook/Meta meta tags that also feed social and some AI preview systems. sameAs - schema.org property linking an entity to authoritative profiles (LinkedIn, Wikidata, etc.). Server-side rendering - HTML delivered in the initial response so crawlers without JavaScript see full content. Structured data - machine-readable markup (usually schema.org) describing page entities. WebMCP - an emerging standard for declaring machine-actionable page capabilities to agents. Zero-click search - users get answers without clicking through; AI SEO optimizes for being the cited source. --- ABOUT AUTOMATELAB AutomateLab builds production AI automation tools and publishes free resources at automatelab.tech - including MCP servers for n8n debugging, AI citation intelligence, content distribution, and the AI SEO Checker web tool this extension is built on. Open source: github.com/AutomateLab-tech/ai-seo-page-auditor-chrome Full web tool: automatelab.tech/tools/ai-seo-checker/ Support and product pages: automatelab.tech/products/ --- OPTIMIZATION WORKFLOW 1. Baseline - audit your homepage or top landing page; note the letter grade and weakest categories. 2. Fix fails first - unblock AI crawlers, remove noindex, add JSON-LD, rewrite the opening paragraph as a direct answer, publish llms.txt. 3. Clear warnings - title/meta length, heading skips, missing og:image, thin alt text, stale dates. 4. Re-audit - click Re-audit after each deploy; badge and cache update on that exact URL. 5. Share - open Full report for evidence snippets and fix notes per check. --- AI CRAWLERS CHECKED IN ROBOTS.TXT GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI), ClaudeBot (Anthropic), PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, and related agents. Blocking them can keep your pages out of AI chat answers even when classic Google indexing looks fine. --- SCHEMA TYPES VALIDATED Article, BlogPosting, FAQPage, HowTo, Product, Organization, Person, WebPage - with type-match and required-property checks, not just “JSON-LD exists.” --- Install AI-SEO Page Auditor and know - in seconds - whether the page in front of you is built to be found, parsed, and cited by AI.
