AI-Select
Overview
Summarize selected webpage text with Chrome's built-in AI.
AI-Select: On-Device AI Text Summarization Instantly summarize any text on the web without compromising your privacy! AI-Select is a lightweight, zero-backend Chrome extension that places a powerful floating AI action button next to your active text selection. With just one click, it digests lengthy articles, dense paragraphs, or chat logs into concise, easily readable summaries. Because it’s built natively on Chrome’s embedded Gemini Nano model (the Summarizer API), AI-Select runs 100% locally on your machine. This means lightning-fast performance, zero server-side latency, and complete data privacy—your browsing and selected text never leave your device. ✨ Key Features: Seamless Contextual UI: Simply highlight any text on a webpage, and click the native ✨ floating button that elegantly appears right next to your selection. Zero Privacy Risk: Entirely offline architecture. No external API calls, servers, or user tracking. Your data is 100% yours. Fully Configurable: Tailor your output effortlessly via the extension popup. Choose from multiple summary types (TLDR, Teaser, Key Points, Headline), output formats (Plain text, Markdown), and lengths (Short, Medium, Long). Real-time Output: Toggle "Streaming" mode to watch your summary generate in front of your eyes word-by-word natively. Clean & Unintrusive: The lightweight UI stays completely out of your way and smartly dismisses itself whenever you interact with other parts of the page. ⚙️ Hardware Requirements (Important!): For the Summarizer API and Gemini Nano to process data directly on your device, your machine must meet Google's baseline hardware requirements: Browser: Google Chrome version 138 or newer. Memory/CPU: Minimum 16GB RAM + 4 CPU cores (or >4GB VRAM for GPU usage). Storage: At least 22 GB of free disk space. Network: An unmetered connection is required only for the initial one-time local Nano model download if it hasn't been instantiated already. ⚠️ Troubleshooting: If you experience an error stating "The device is not eligible for running on-device model." or cannot view the prompt window, you may need to manually bypass Chrome's pre-release performance benchmarks. Open chrome://flags/#optimization-guide-on-device-model and set it to Enabled BypassPerfRequirement. Open chrome://flags/#prompt-api-for-gemini-nano and set it to Enabled. Completely restart your Chrome browser. Work faster and smarter by bringing Google's on-device AI natively to your fingertips.
