Overview

Labels AI images using image provenance, three local models, and frequency/noise analysis, with reasons and optional OpenAI checks.

## Detailed Description AI IMAGE BADGE is a Chrome extension that reviews images displayed on web pages and overlays badges showing the result and the evidence behind each assessment. If you use an OpenAI API key with this extension, OpenAI may charge separate API usage fees. You are responsible for any fees incurred and for using the API at your own discretion. Key features: - Optional OpenAI SynthID verification, disabled by default - C2PA and image metadata inspection - Three selectable on-device AI image detection models - Supplemental frequency and noise analysis - Support for lazy-loaded images and CSS background images - URL allowlist and exclusion list - Configurable detection thresholds, GPU acceleration, and badge display - Click a badge to view the detection method, score, and retrieval status Badge labels: - AI [SynthID] - AI [C2PA] - AI [Model] - Possibly AI / Possibly AI [C2PA] - Possibly non-AI Standard model inference is performed locally on the user's device. When the user enables OpenAI SynthID verification, the extension displays a confirmation explaining that separate API charges may apply, that eligible images will be sent to OpenAI, and that the feature is used at the user's own responsibility. The feature is enabled only after the user selects the acknowledgment checkbox and gives explicit consent. Supported images are then sent to OpenAI's Content Provenance API. The user must provide their own OpenAI API key, and API charges and usage limits may apply. When the optional OpenAI feature is used, submitted images may be processed outside the user's country, including in the United States, and may be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days under normal circumstances. Exceptions may apply for legal or safety reasons or when CSAM is detected. The API key is excluded from Chrome Sync but is not encrypted on the device. We recommend creating a dedicated OpenAI project and API key for this extension and setting a low usage limit. See the privacy policy for details. Results are probabilistic estimates. Editing, recompression, screenshots, and previously unknown generators may cause false positives or missed detections. Do not use a badge as the sole basis for conclusions about authenticity, copyright, identity, or any other final determination. The source hostname and URL may be displayed as reference information, but they are never used alone to assign an AI detection badge. Badge details also warn users not to treat the result as a definitive assessment of the image's creator or publisher. ## Development Assistance Disclosure The code for this extension was created using OpenAI's ChatGPT and checked using Anthropic's Claude. The publisher assumes final responsibility for adopting, modifying, testing, and distributing the code. This extension is not an official, affiliated, sponsored, endorsed, or certified product of OpenAI, ChatGPT, Anthropic, or Claude.
