Overview

Protect personal information when using AI assistants: detects and masks it before reaching chatbots, then restores it in responses.

You paste an email thread into ChatGPT and ask it to draft a reply. That email contains names, phone numbers, addresses, and other personal details, now sitting on a third-party server that may use your data for model training or be subject to data breaches. You could manually edit out every sensitive detail before sending and then put them all back into the AI's response afterward, but that is tedious and error-prone, especially when a single message contains dozens of personal details. Privacy Guard solves this. It automatically detects personal information in your message, replaces it with realistic fake data before the message is sent, and restores the original values in the AI's response. The entire process takes one click and runs locally in your browser. No data ever leaves your device. HOW IT WORKS 1. Type or paste your message as usual on any supported AI chatbot. 2. Privacy Guard pauses before sending and shows a confirmation panel highlighting every piece of detected personal information alongside a mapping table of real values to fake replacements. You can toggle masking on or off for each individual item, so you stay in full control of exactly what gets masked and what stays as is. 3. Click Send Masked. The AI receives a message with realistic fake names, emails, and addresses instead of real ones. 4. When the AI responds, Privacy Guard automatically swaps the fake values back to your originals so the response reads naturally. Fake replacements are realistic, such as actual names, valid phone formats, and plausible addresses, rather than generic placeholders like [NAME_1]. This means the AI produces more natural and useful responses because the prompt still reads like normal text. Mappings stay consistent within a conversation, so the same name is always replaced with the same fake name. WHAT IT DETECTS Privacy Guard recognizes 11 types of personal information: - Names (people and organizations) - Email addresses - Phone numbers - Street addresses - Social Security numbers - Credit card numbers - Dates of birth - IP addresses - URLs - IBANs (international bank account numbers) - Locations (cities, states, countries) SUPPORTED PLATFORMS - ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) - Claude (claude.ai) - Gemini (gemini.google.com) - Perplexity (perplexity.ai) LANGUAGE SUPPORT - Currently supports English only.
