SSH Terminal

)Overview
Connect to your servers from Chrome — a browser ssh terminal, an ssh client and ssh file transfer over SFTP in one extension.
🖥️ A terminal ssh client that runs inside Chrome SSH Terminal puts the ssh tools of a working day in one extension: a remote shell, an SFTP file browser and a key agent. Nothing to install, no account, no paid tier. Real OpenSSH in WebAssembly speaks to servers the way the command line does. 🔌 How connections work, and why it matters Chrome extensions cannot open raw TCP sockets, so sessions travel over a WebSocket to one of our relay servers (relay-eu-1.sshterm.dev, relay-us-e-1.sshterm.dev), which forwards the bytes on to your server. The SSH protocol itself runs inside the extension, so what crosses the relay is encrypted ciphertext: the relay cannot read your session, and your passwords and private keys never leave your device. The relay does keep connection metadata — destination host and port, a random installation id, session id, bytes transferred, duration — for 30 days, to operate the service and stop abuse. You can point the extension at a relay you run yourself. Privacy policy: https://sshterm.dev/privacy 🌐 A browser ssh terminal, not a web service An online ssh terminal whose code sits in your own Chrome — no site to sign into, nothing typed on someone else's page. Call it webssh if that is your word for it. 🗂️ Windows, tabs and panes Sessions open in a Chrome window of their own, with tabs and a status dot on each. Every shortcut the window adds starts with Ctrl+Shift, so the shell keeps its own keys. Split a tab into panes, each its own session, and Broadcast types into them all at once. ⌨️ ssh terminal commands you type twice a day • Keep them as snippets in a palette, and search the scrollback with highlighted matches. • Let a saved connection run a command over ssh instead of a login shell: tmux new -A -s main, say. • Copying and pasting need no clipboard permission; Save output keeps the scrollback as a .log file. 🔑 Add ssh key to terminal and file sessions once Import the keys you have, or create an ed25519 key here (Chrome 137+) and paste the line it returns into authorized_keys. The agent signs unencrypted keys locally and sends only the signature, so one key serves every host; a passphrase key works if you pick it on the connection. 📁 ssh file transfer beside the shell Right-click, then Browse files, opens a one-panel SFTP window: walk the remote tree, drag files in to upload, download byte-for-byte, rename, chmod, delete and create folders. Copy files via ssh terminal menus rather than a second utility. Any server with SFTP 3 or later will do; folder uploads and in-place editing are not supported. 🗃️ Saved connections that stay portable Store host, port, user, key or password, agent forwarding and a startup command. Alt+Shift+L reopens the most recent one. Keys never sync and never enter a backup, but the OpenSSH config you keep imports and exports as plain text. 💻 A Windows ssh terminal, and the same on every other desktop ➤ An ssh client for Windows that installs as a Chrome extension — no ssh software for Windows to download first. ➤ ssh Linux servers from the same window, with the same keys and layout. ➤ A secure shell client for Mac inside Chrome, not a replacement for the system terminal. ➤ A Chrome ssh terminal on desktop Chrome 120+, ChromeOS and Chromebooks included. ➤ A Chrome extension, not a desktop terminal application; there is no mobile build. 🔄 When the network drops Lose Wi-Fi for a moment and the session carries on: the client reconnects underneath for about ten seconds, and the shell resumes mid-command. Closing the window ends every session in it; nothing keeps running detached. 🔒 What it can and cannot see Two permissions, storage and alarms: no browsing data, no remote code, no analytics, no ads, no AI reading your terminal. Crash reports carry the shape of an error, never your hosts, and there is an off switch. ❓ Questions worth answering first Q: How to ssh into a server using terminal input alone? A: Alt+Shift+S opens the popup; type user@host or user@host:port and connect. The password is asked in a prompt of its own, outside the terminal stream, and the host key is confirmed once. Q: Anything to download first? A: No — there is no ssh program for Windows, macOS or Linux to fetch. ⚠️ Before you install No port forwarding, SOCKS or ProxyJump under Manifest V3; forwarding the agent to a bastion is the one hop there is. Our relays reach ports 22 and 2222 and refuse private addresses — run your own for anything else. Ten sessions at a time, 12 hours each; our relays add 5 GB per session. English interface only. 🧭 Open the popup, type a host, and get on with the work.
