Overview

Browse local folders in a tab-specific sidebar. Preview Markdown and highlighted code, and save favorite folders.

Browse local files without leaving your current browser tab. Side Fileview opens a tab-specific folder browser in the browser’s side panel whenever you work with a file:// page. Move through folders and open another file directly in the same tab, while keeping the surrounding directory visible. It is especially useful when an LLM generates a collection of local HTML or Markdown documents. Open one result in the browser, then use Side Fileview to review the whole folder and switch quickly between generated pages, notes, drafts, and supporting files without repeatedly returning to a file manager. FEATURES • Browse the folder containing the current local file • Review LLM-generated HTML and Markdown documents and switch quickly between related files • Open HTML, text, images, Markdown, and source-code files • Preview sanitized Markdown or switch to its original source • Read source code with syntax highlighting • Save favorite folders, collapse the favorites section, and distinguish long paths by their beginning and ending • Filter the current folder and jump back to the file open in the tab • Adjust text size, Markdown behavior, language, and the browser’s side-panel position setting • Use English or Simplified Chinese, with automatic light and dark themes GET STARTED After installation, open the extension’s details in the browser’s extension management page and enable “Allow access to file URLs.” Open a local file, then click the Side Fileview toolbar icon. You can also use Alt+Shift+F or type “sf”, press Tab, enter “open”, and press Enter in the address bar. PRIVATE AND LOCAL Your files remain on your device. Side Fileview has no account, server, analytics, advertising, or cloud synchronization. It does not upload file paths or file contents. Favorites and preferences are stored only in the browser’s local extension storage. The browser may open some unsupported original file types as downloads. Markdown and source-code files can still be viewed safely in the built-in preview.
