Afterimage

Turn scrolling into short-lived visual traces drawn from the structure of the current page.

Afterimage makes page movement visible. When you scroll, semantic elements that cross the viewport edge can leave a short-lived canvas trace. Headings become typographic echoes, paragraphs become line residues, media becomes translucent geometry, and controls become outlines. Four modes—Ghost, Echo, Smear and Fragment—change how those traces decay. The effect is rendered in a pointer-transparent canvas overlay and does not move or restyle the page underneath. Candidate analysis is capped at 180 forms. Afterimage reads geometry and a small set of computed visual properties from visible semantic elements; for headings it may read up to 72 characters so the local echo can resemble the heading that just moved. That information exists only in page memory while the effect is active and is not stored or transmitted. Afterimage runs only after you click its toolbar icon or use Alt+Shift+G. It does not capture page screenshots, copy image pixels, collect browsing history, save page data, use analytics, or make network requests. Reduced-motion preferences start the effect paused.
