)Overview
Protects your browsing by instantly neutralizing invisible click traps and pop-under ad overlays.
AdsClickShield - Keep your clicks yours. Stop scripted popups, pop-unders, and unwanted external link clicks from interrupting your browsing. AdsClickShield gives you a focused guard against common click-hijacking techniques, with simple controls for choosing which websites receive protection. Protection is enabled by default on supported HTTP and HTTPS websites. Open the toolbar popup to check the current site's status, see observed blocking activity, pause protection, or set a domain rule. Use the settings page when you want to manage your lists or protect only selected websites. No account is required. Settings stay in your browser, and page activity stays in memory. There is no analytics service, remote reporting service, or saved browsing-history log in the extension. WHAT ADSCLICKSHIELD DOES AdsClickShield focuses on three related behaviors: scripts opening browser windows, scripts clicking external web links, and known click traps on YTS. It also suppresses the supported YTS ad-library setup calls before they can create their popup and click-trap handlers. SCRIPTED POPUPS AND POP-UNDERS On protected pages, AdsClickShield blocks scripted window.open calls. This includes calls with blank destinations, calls to external sites, and calls that would open another copy of the current site. Blocking same-site scripted windows also helps interrupt the opening step used in certain tab-swap advertising techniques. The extension does not try to decide whether each scripted popup is an advertisement. It applies the same rule to all such calls on a protected page. This makes the behavior predictable, but it also means a legitimate sign-in, payment, sharing, or preview window may be stopped if the website opens it through that mechanism. When a trusted website needs scripted windows, choose Allowlist for that domain in the toolbar popup. You can also use selected-domain mode so the guard runs only on websites you specifically choose. These controls let you decide where the stronger popup rule is appropriate. SCRIPTED EXTERNAL LINK CLICKS AdsClickShield blocks supported artificial clicks on external HTTP and HTTPS links. It covers direct scripted anchor clicks, including detached anchors, as well as synthetic link-click events that reach the page's click listener. Your own genuine clicks are handled separately and remain available. On ordinary protected websites, an external destination means a different origin. An origin includes the protocol, hostname, and port, so a destination can be considered external even when it looks related to the current website. On YTS, the additional site-specific rule treats yts.gg and its subdomains as the same website family. EARLY PROTECTION AND PAGE FRAMES The protection scripts are registered to run at document start on matching pages. This allows the guard to be installed early in the page lifecycle rather than waiting for the whole page to finish loading. Chrome loads the registered scripts directly, without the extension needing to insert an inline script element into the page. Frame behavior follows the hostname rules that apply to each frame. A page can contain frames from different domains, so an exception for the main website does not automatically give every embedded domain the same exception. The toolbar aggregates observed activity from the current document and frames it can inspect. CHOOSE WHERE PROTECTION RUNS You can use AdsClickShield broadly or narrowly. The settings page offers two default behaviors, and both work with the domain lists while the global switch is enabled. Protect all sites except allowed domains: This is the default mode. Supported websites receive protection unless an allowlist rule exempts them. Use it when you want broad coverage with exceptions for trusted sites that need scripted popups or external link clicks. Protect only disallowed domains: In this mode, protection runs on the domains you place in the disallowlist. Other websites use the unprotected default. Use it when only a few sites cause interruptions or when you prefer to choose each protected domain yourself. The word disallowlist refers to applying AdsClickShield's protection. It does not mean the website is blocked from opening, and it does not prevent you from visiting that domain. You can continue browsing the site while the extension blocks its supported scripted popup and external-link behavior. The global switch overrides both modes and both lists. If you disable protection, adding a domain to the disallowlist does not turn the guard back on. Enable protection again when you want the saved mode and site rules to take effect. ALLOWLIST AND DISALLOWLIST The allowlist is for websites that should bypass the guard. The disallowlist is for websites that should receive it while protection is enabled. Each list supports up to 100 domain entries, and you can add or remove entries from Manage lists. Enter a domain such as example.com, or paste an HTTP or HTTPS website URL. AdsClickShield stores the normalized hostname in lowercase. URL paths and ports are not stored as separate rules, so a rule applies to the hostname rather than only to a particular article, download page, or URL path. Each DNS domain entry includes its subdomains. Adding example.com covers example.com, www.example.com, and other subdomains under that name. You do not need to enter a wildcard. Matching respects domain boundaries, so the example.com rule does not also match an unrelated hostname such as notexample.com. More specific domain rules take precedence over parent-domain rules. For example, you can allowlist example.com while disallowlisting ads.example.com. The parent website remains exempt, while the more specific subdomain and its descendants receive protection. Adding the same domain to the other list moves that exact entry rather than keeping two conflicting copies. Removing an exact rule lets the domain fall back to any applicable parent rule or to your selected default mode. Returning the popup selector to the default or inherited option has the same practical purpose for the current hostname. CONTROLS IN THE TOOLBAR POPUP The popup and settings page automatically follow your browser's light or dark theme. For a supported website, the domain selector offers three choices: - Use default / inherited rule: remove the current hostname's exact rule and use the matching parent rule or default mode. - Allowlist - bypass protection: exempt this hostname and its subdomains, subject to any more specific rules. - Disallowlist - apply protection: protect this hostname and its subdomains while the global switch is enabled, subject to any more specific rules. Changes made through the popup reload the current supported website tab so the new guard state can take effect. Other tabs already open in your browser need their own refresh. The popup also offers a reload control when the current page does not match the saved settings. Manage lists opens the full settings page. There you can change the default behavior, edit either domain list, and use the global switch. Settings-page changes save automatically; reload existing pages after changing them so their protection reflects the new rules. WHEN A PAGE NEEDS RELOADING Reload required means the page's installed state does not match the saved settings, or the current page needs a fresh load for the extension to report the expected guard state. Refresh the tab to apply the current configuration. CURRENT-PAGE ACTIVITY The This page section reports four kinds of observed activity: popups blocked, redirects blocked, click traps removed, and ad setups blocked. These counters describe actions the extension actually observed on the current page and its current inspectable frames. Popups blocked counts stopped scripted window-opening calls. Redirects blocked counts the supported artificial external-link navigation attempts. Click traps removed counts recognized trap elements removed by the YTS-specific protection. Ad setups blocked counts calls to the suppressed YTS advertising setup API or its supported constructor. A zero count does not mean protection is absent. A page may not have attempted a supported action, or an earlier setup block may have prevented a later action from being created. On a protected YTS page, the popup can identify the installed ad-library guard even before it observes a setup call. Activity belongs to the current document. Counts reset when you navigate to a new document or reload the page. If a frame is removed, its contribution is no longer included in the current snapshot. The popup is a view of current-page activity rather than a permanent record of your browsing session. RECENT ACTIVITY AND DIAGNOSTICS Recent activity shows up to eight observed actions with their times. The labels distinguish scripted popup attempts, scripted external redirects, removed invisible traps, and blocked ad setup requests. This makes it easier to see what the guard has encountered without showing an unbounded event log. Use Copy diagnostics when you want to capture the extension's current view of a page. It copies structured information such as the extension version, current hostname, protection status, mode, counters, recent activity, and matching rule information. Diagnostics do not copy your full allowlist or disallowlist. They may identify the current site's matching rule, and they include current-page information, so you can review the copied text before pasting it into a support message or another document. The button copies to your clipboard only when you use it. AdsClickShield does not automatically upload the diagnostics or send a report on your behalf. You decide whether and where to share the copied information. PRIVACY AND LOCAL STORAGE AdsClickShield operates locally in your browser. It has no account system, analytics service, or remote server for collecting extension activity. The extension does not send your browsing activity or domain lists to a developer-operated reporting endpoint. Your enable or disable preference, default protection mode, allowlist, and disallowlist are stored using Chrome's local extension storage. They remain available across browser restarts. The extension uses local storage rather than a cloud account or its own synchronization service for these settings. Observed page actions are held in page memory. They are used to display the current counters and recent activity while the popup is open, and they are not saved as a browsing-history database. Navigating or reloading starts a new document with new activity counts. No sign-up, email address, or subscription is required to use the included controls. The popup and settings page do not contain advertising, and there is no premium feature gate in this version. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED Storage: saves the global switch, default mode, and domain lists locally so your choices survive browser restarts. Scripting: registers the protection scripts on the websites selected by your rules and reads the bounded activity snapshots used by the toolbar popup. Active tab: supports working with the tab you select when you open the extension from the toolbar, including identifying the current website for the popup controls. HTTP and HTTPS website access: allows the extension to provide protection across websites and apply the hostname rules you choose. Broad website access supports the default protect-all mode as well as switching to selected-domain mode without replacing the extension. These permissions support the page guard, settings, and current-tab interface. Chrome still restricts extension access to certain pages. Website access does not let AdsClickShield protect browser-internal pages or override the browser's security boundaries. GETTING STARTED 1. Install AdsClickShield in a supported version of Chrome. 2. Reload website tabs that were already open so they can load the guard. 3. Open the toolbar popup on a website to check its protection status. 4. Browse normally and review the current-page counters when useful. 5. Allowlist a trusted domain if a feature needs scripted popups or external link clicks. 6. Open Manage lists if you prefer to protect only specific domains. COMPATIBILITY AND EXPECTATIONS AdsClickShield requires Chrome 119 or newer and is built as a Manifest V3 extension. It supports ordinary HTTP and HTTPS webpages. Browser-internal pages, local files, and browser-restricted pages such as the Chrome Web Store are outside its protection scope. Your ordinary trusted clicks, native links that open a new tab, same-origin scripted link navigation, and magnet links remain available under the guard's rules. The extension targets the specified scripted actions; it does not intentionally replace the site's regular links or controls. However, a website feature can depend on a blocked mechanism even when the feature is legitimate. A real user click can trigger site code that calls window.open, and that scripted opening is still blocked. A download or login flow that relies on a scripted external web link may also need an exception. AdsClickShield is a focused popup and click-hijack guard. It does not provide a general network advertising filter, malware scanner, antivirus service, or guarantee that a website is safe. Banner filtering and click-trap removal across every website are not included. The extra known-overlay protection is specific to YTS. PRACTICAL HELP An existing tab still behaves as before: Reload it. Pages opened before installation, an update, or a settings change may retain their old state until they load again. Refresh other open tabs separately after changing the global switch or domain rules. A trusted login, payment, sharing, or preview window stopped opening: Choose Allowlist for that domain in the popup and let the current tab reload. If the feature belongs to a more specific subdomain, you can use a narrow exception instead of exempting a whole parent domain. You want protection on only a few websites: Open Manage lists, choose Protect only disallowed domains, and add the desired domains to the disallowlist. Keep the global switch enabled. Each domain entry includes its subdomains unless a more specific rule overrides it. You need to describe unexpected behavior: Copy diagnostics from the affected page and review the text. Include what you clicked, what you expected, what happened, and whether reloading or allowlisting changed the result. Share the copied details only where you choose to report the issue. Take control of where the guard runs, see what it observes, and keep your browsing choices in your own browser. AdsClickShield helps reduce supported scripted interruptions while giving you straightforward exceptions for the websites you trust.
