Overview

Turn API chaos into usable magic. Mock API responses, simulate errors and test frontend apps without backend changes.

✨ MOCKADABRA Turn API chaos into usable magic. Stop waiting for the backend. Start testing what matters. Mockadabra is an API mocking extension for frontend developers and QA engineers. Pick a request your web app made and decide what it returns: your data, an error, a delay or a network failure. No changes to your application code or your backend, no account. Building a new feature, reproducing a bug or testing an edge case? See every state of your UI on demand: success, empty list, validation error, server failure, slow response, dropped connection. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔮 FROM REAL REQUEST TO MOCK IN A FEW CLICKS • See your tab's requests as they happen The popup's Activity lists every fetch and XMLHttpRequest call of the current tab, with what Mockadabra did and why: MOCKED, REAL, SLOW or FAILED, the HTTP status and how long it took. • Mock It Click the wand on a real request. Method and path come from the request and its real response is the starting point. Return data, an error or a network failure, then Save & mock: the next call is answered by your mock. Already mocked? The same row opens your mock for editing. • Why not? When a request came close to a mock but didn't match, Mockadabra names the mock and the condition that failed. • Your page tells you when a mock answered A small MOCKED tag in the corner of the page names the request, the mock and the response, and the toolbar icon counts the tab's mocked requests. Hide it on a tab, or turn it off in Settings. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔍 A BUSY PAGE, MADE READABLE • Search by path, method or status, and filter: All, Mocked, Real, Errors, Close to a mock. • Repeated requests collapse into one row: ×30, with the time of the last one. • Hide the noise: Hide this host (remembered per project), or Only my API to keep the page's own requests. • Long addresses stay readable: the end of the path is always visible, and another host shows as a small tag. • Open in the Dashboard: the tab's requests in a wide table with status and duration. • Query strings are shown only if you turn that on in Settings (off by default). ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧪 EVERY RESPONSE YOUR BACKEND RARELY GIVES YOU • Mock a response: status, headers, a JSON or text body, and a delay. • Simulate a server error, an empty result, a slow answer or a network failure. • Change a real response: keep your real backend and change its status, headers or selected JSON fields. • Keep several responses per mock (Success, Empty, Error, Slow…) and switch the one in use in one click, from the popup or the Dashboard. • Match precisely: HTTP method and path or full URL, with exact, wildcard (:id, *, **) or regular-expression patterns, plus query, header and request-body conditions. The first match from the top of the list answers. • Understand your rules: overlapping mocks are flagged, and "Try a request" shows which conditions pass or fail. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🏢 BUILT FOR MANY APPS AND ENVIRONMENTS • One project per app, with its own sites, folders and mocks. Several apps under one domain? A site can have a path, such as pre-company.ch/projectA. • When two projects cover a page, the most specific one wins. • Test an address: paste a page address and see which project and environment apply, and why. • Environments (DEV, PRE, Staging…) and {{variables}} with a value per environment, plus built-ins such as {{request.params.id}}, {{$uuid}} and {{$timestamp}}. • The environment can follow the page address: for example *.docker uses local and pre-company.ch uses PRE. • Single-page apps: the project follows the address as you navigate, without a reload. • Copy or move a mock to another project. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎛️ IN CONTROL FROM THE POPUP Pause mocking on the current tab, choose the tab's project and environment, turn single mocks on or off, pick the response in use, and quickly edit a mock's body without opening the Dashboard. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📦 BRING YOUR WORK, KEEP IT SAFE • Back up and restore: export and import with a full preview, conflict handling and automatic safety copies. Share setups with teammates as files. • Import existing mocks: bring compatible static HTTP mocks from an external JSON file. Mockadabra analyzes it on your device, shows each proposed mock for review and creates a new, disabled project after you confirm. Anything it cannot convert exactly is pointed out, never silently changed. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔒 LOCAL-FIRST. YOU STAY IN CONTROL. • Your projects, mocks, variables and settings stay in your browser profile. No account, no server of its own, no analytics. • Nothing runs at install. Mockadabra asks Chrome for access one site at a time, when you click, and you can revoke it any time. • Chrome grants a whole domain; Mockadabra only mocks on the paths you choose, and on the domain's other pages it only lists requests. • Requests a mock answers are handled locally and never sent. Everything else reaches the real server as usual. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💡 GOOD TO KNOW • Works with fetch and asynchronous XMLHttpRequest on http(s) pages. It does not intercept Web or Service Worker requests, WebSockets, EventSource, sendBeacon or page loads (navigation, images, scripts, CSS). • Secret values are stored unencrypted in your browser profile: don't put production credentials in mocks. • A mocked response is visible to the page that requested it: enable Mockadabra only on sites you trust. • Free, without fixed limits on the number of projects, environments or mocks. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🪄 Mockadabra.
