WATERMARK STUDIO 2.0 — WHAT CHANGED Watermark Studio adds a logo or a line of text to your photos, in batches, without uploading anything. Your pictures are opened, watermarked and saved entirely on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server, no account is needed, and no analytics are collected. Version 2.0 is a complete rebuild. The old version had stopped working in modern Chrome, and much of what it did produce was wrong. Here is what we fixed and what we added. THE EXTENSION RUNS AGAIN The previous release was built on an extension platform Chrome no longer supports, so it had simply stopped loading. Watermark Studio has been rebuilt on the current platform and works in today's Chrome and Edge. We also removed a background component that quietly contacted a remote server every time your browser started, generated a permanent identifier for your installation, and could open browser tabs on instruction from that server. It is gone. The extension now requests no access to any website and makes no network requests of its own. WATERMARKS THAT ACTUALLY FIT YOUR PHOTOS The biggest problem with the old version was that watermarks were drawn at a fixed pixel size. A logo that looked right on a screenshot would swallow a large photo whole, and text sized for a screenshot was invisible on a photo from a real camera. Sizes are now a percentage of the photo, so one setting looks correct across a mixed batch — a phone screenshot and a 24-megapixel export get a watermark of the same visual weight. Edge margins work the same way, replacing a fixed five-pixel gap that was a sensible border on small images and invisible on large ones. NEW CONTROLS - Opacity. A watermark you can see through, which is what most people expect and what the old version could not do at all. - Rotation, from minus ninety to plus ninety degrees, for diagonal marks. - Repeat across the whole photo. A watermark in one corner is cropped off in seconds; tiling it across the frame is far harder to remove. - Outline and shadow for text, so a light watermark stays readable against a bright sky. - Free placement. Drag the watermark anywhere on the preview, or nudge it with the arrow keys. The nine-position grid is still there as a shortcut. A LIVE PREVIEW Previously the only way to see the result was to download the file and open it. Now there is a full preview that updates as you type and as you move the sliders, rendered by exactly the same code that produces the exported file — so what you see is what you get. BATCHES THAT DO NOT FREEZE THE TAB Processing has moved off the main thread, with a progress bar and a Cancel button that genuinely stops the work rather than just hiding it. A memory leak that grew with every adjustment has been fixed, so long sessions with large photos no longer slow to a crawl. One unreadable file used to stall the entire batch silently, with no error and no way to recover short of reloading. Now each photo is handled independently: a file that cannot be opened is marked with a clear reason and the rest of the batch carries on. CORRECT FILES OUT - File types and file names now always match. A watermarked GIF used to be saved as a PNG that was still named .gif; that is fixed. - Output no longer overwrites or collides with your originals. Names follow a template you control, with tokens for the original name, a sequence number and the date. - Download everything as a single ZIP, which avoids Chrome's "download multiple files" interruption that could silently drop files. - Choose your output format — keep the original, or convert to JPEG, PNG or WebP — with a quality slider and an optional limit on the longest edge. - Photo metadata is preserved. Camera settings, dates and location now survive the watermarking process, and you can optionally write your name into the file's copyright and artist fields. The embedded preview thumbnail is deliberately discarded so it cannot leak the un-watermarked original. - Photos taken in portrait orientation are no longer saved sideways. IT REMEMBERS WHAT YOU DO Every setting is saved between sessions, instead of resetting to red 24-pixel text each time you open it. You can save named presets for different jobs, and logos and custom fonts you add are stored so you never have to hunt for the same file twice. SMALLER THINGS THAT ADD UP Drag and drop photos onto the window or paste them from the clipboard. Remove a single photo instead of clearing everything. Right-click any image on the web and choose "Watermark this image". File sizes are shown in sensible units. There is a dark theme. Every control is reachable by keyboard and properly labelled for screen readers, including the position grid, which previously announced nine unnamed buttons. AVAILABLE IN 43 LANGUAGES The interface has been fully retranslated, including right-to-left layouts for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu.
