Ad Tray — Hold, Don't Block
Overview
Catches popup ads before a tab is created and holds them in a small tray, rendered live, so you decide what actually opens.
Most popup blockers work by destroying popups before you ever see them. That works until a site detects the blocker and nags you to turn it off, or until the thing it killed turned out to be something you wanted. Ad Tray takes a different approach. When a page tries to spawn a popup, the tab is never created. Instead the page loads inside a small window in the corner of your screen, where you can see exactly what it is before deciding what to do with it. HOW IT WORKS - A site tries to open a popup - No tab appears in your tab strip - The page renders in a small preview window in the corner - You open it, dismiss it, or trust the site so it never gets held again WHAT YOU GET - No tab-strip clutter. Popups never steal focus or fill your window. - See before you click. Each held popup renders live, so you know what it is. - Stacked and out of the way. Collapse the tray to a single strip, expand it when you want to look. - Trusted sites. Logins, payments, and share dialogs pass through untouched, and you can add your own. - Always-hold rules. Name specific domains to hold every time, even on sites you otherwise trust. - Decision log. See every popup it saw and exactly why it was held or let through. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO Ad Tray is not an antivirus and does not scan your computer. It does not block ads on pages, only popups that try to open in a new tab or window. It does not send your browsing data anywhere; everything stays in your browser. Held popups render in a sandboxed frame that cannot open further popups, navigate your current page, or access cookies for its own site. The tray holds up to 25 popups at once. Each one is a live page render, so that is a memory limit rather than an artificial cap.
