active-tab-logger
Overview
Tracks active tab activity and sends tab updates to Telegram
## Active Tab Logger Active Tab Logger is a personal browser activity logging extension that sends information about your currently active tab to a Telegram chat that you configure. The extension is designed for users who want to keep their own browser activity log across one or more devices. ### How it works Tracking is disabled by default. Before any tab activity is logged, you must: 1. Review and accept the in-extension data-use disclosure. 2. Configure your own Telegram bot token and Telegram chat ID. 3. Explicitly enable tracking. While tracking is enabled, Active Tab Logger periodically checks the currently active browser tab and sends an activity message to your configured Telegram chat through the Telegram Bot API. Depending on your settings, a log entry may include: * Tab title * Website hostname or URL * Timestamp * Device label ### Privacy controls You control what is logged. **Hostname-only mode** Logs only the website hostname instead of the full URL. **Full-URL mode** Logs a more complete URL when additional detail is needed. **Domain whitelist** Optionally restrict logging to specific domains. The extension also: * Removes URL hash fragments before transmission. * Removes the query string when known sensitive query parameter names are detected. * Avoids repeatedly sending identical activity entries. * Allows tracking to be disabled at any time. * Allows Telegram settings to be cleared. * Allows all locally stored extension data to be wiped. Full URLs and page titles can contain sensitive information. Hostname-only mode and a restrictive whitelist can be used to reduce the amount of browsing information sent to Telegram. ### Local settings and Telegram Extension settings and state are stored locally in the current Chrome profile. These settings include tracking preferences, consent status, device label, whitelist configuration, Telegram bot token, Telegram chat ID, and operational state. The Telegram bot token is an authentication credential and should only be configured on devices you trust. When tracking is enabled, selected active-tab information is sent directly from the extension to Telegram through the Telegram Bot API. Telegram is a third-party service and receives the activity messages that you choose to send through the extension. Messages already delivered to Telegram are subject to Telegram's own policies, settings, and data-retention practices. ### Data use Active Tab Logger does not operate a developer-controlled backend for browser activity. The extension: * Does not sell browsing data. * Does not use advertising. * Does not use analytics services. * Does not use browsing activity for unrelated profiling. * Does not send browsing activity to the developer. * Uses active-tab information only to provide the personal logging functionality described above. ### Permissions Active Tab Logger uses the following Chrome permissions: **Tabs** — to read the title and URL of the currently active tab while tracking is enabled. **Storage** — to store extension configuration and state in the current Chrome profile. **Alarms** — to schedule periodic active-tab checks while tracking is enabled. **api.telegram.org** — to send test messages and activity-log messages to the Telegram Bot API using the bot token and chat ID configured by the user. Active Tab Logger is intended for logging your own browser activity on devices that you control.
